Yep, methinks Mr Thompson is going to get a lot of hatemail on sunday if the football goes into extra goals or whatever it's called

On the other hand, it's a nice gesture that a) they're warning in advance and b) they are caring about the younger audience. Yes it would be frustrating to have to wait a week, but even worse if you're seven years old, and have to go to bed before Doctor Who starts. If you only have BBC1 that would mean missing a whole episode.

Why not put the footie on BBC2? Or Dr Who on BBC2?

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am...

Jim, while we all know you kinda have to play Devil's Advocate when this sort of thing happens... surely it's naive to assume that the average Who-obsessed seven-year-old is going to understand why the footie has replaced their favourite programme?

I'm not saying I like it - in fact, I hate the way sport takes precedence over absolutely everything (like the way it totally messed up Life On Mars a few weeks back). I was merely pointing out that by announcing their plans ahead of time, they are showing a little more respect for the show than schedulers normally do, which I think is a small positive thing, and perhaps indicative of how important our show now is.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply you liked it... I just figured that as one of Auntie's minions you'd be more inclined to have to be nice about these things...

Still, at least we should never have a repeat of the annoyance that was the last season of Voyager lasting about 16 years due to some sporting event or other seeming to interrupt it for a month every other episode.

No, they are covering their @rses. They know they would get absolutely nailed if they postponed it 'just like that'. They are preparing the ground for what might happen.

They don't forewarn other possible programme postponements, which may be watched by kids. This is more to do with the reaction from older fans of the programme i.e the type of people who say

i.e. the BBC realise some people do not treat it as just a programme but something they own and therefore the Beeb need some sort of permission to mess about with it.

Aha, you know this is getting serious.

Radio Times has this week created a new enemy for our hero - "The Rooney" superimposed a certain players head onto the body of the Judoon...scared the willies out of me.

....And the Now Show just had a song by Mitch Benn on the subject of hoping the semi-final finishes on time. (Radio 4 listener , 'fraid so!)

I don't care who wins as long as someone does in the alloted time.smiley - run

I listen to the Now Show, I actually went to the recording they did in Southsea a couple of years ago. I missed this one but I'll listen to it tomorrow

Mol - on the new tablet

Well, DW's just been trailed on BBC3 as showing at 7.40 (which is later than usual) and with No Mention Of Possible Cancellation. My children want to know why there have to be penalties? Why can't the teams just agree it's a draw and nobody's won just like I tell them to do when they're all arguing?

And whose bright idea was downtime tomorrow? How can we do the post-match analysis (for DW, not the football, obviously) without H2? smiley - wah

smiley - wow I adored 'Gridlock'. Superb performances and effects, a witty, exciting and finally moving script, links back to vintage Who with the Macra and the Doctor's poignant final speech about Gallifrey, the developing character of Martha... I applauded the TV at the end! smiley - applausesmiley - tardis

Not bad.

Some amusing bits such as when the Dr hugs Nurse Haine then remembers her role in the whole experimenting with human business...
