I think we've already established that that is not a good name!!
I was doing some rewatching the other day, specifically the one with Queen Victoria. Slightly tipsy but I believe the Doctor introduced himself as Doctor James McCrimmon! Jamie!!
I may, of course, have imagined it.

*Glowers darkly in eloisa's general direction*
Well I am rather attached to it!
Although I have been known in the past by my alternative monikers:
Evil girl of Itchy stench
and
Thighs of Electric Vinyl.
Fans of Torchwood should spot the clue....

Plenty more where that came from!
What'd you think of my factoid though?

Just found this on the BBC News website. Looked through the backlog and couldn't spot a link so wasn't sure if anyone had seen it and just not had chance to post it yet.

BBC Radiophonic workshop have found a collection of previously lost tapes, which amongst others, includes the "draft copy" of the music for Dr Who.

Smij - Formerly Jimster Posted Jul 18, 2008
Ah, that's a bit misleading that news item - it's not the draft of the theme tune they found, but a draft of the music she wrote for a documentary, which was later recycled for the 1970 story 'Inferno'.
Great find though!

Wow that stuff about the radiophonic workshop's brilliant. Really looking forward to hearing more stuff. Hearing the old Dr. Who theme's interesting. I know the theme was going to remain the same anyway, but how they've adjusted it now in only a minimum way I think just shows how ahead of the times the guys in the workshop were (quite apt really I know )
Just occured to me that the way that old recording is, you could probably quite easily transcribe the music. ... Anyway at the risk of going all muso in this forum, I'll post the link on the MuG for everyone to see as well.

True, I was a bit picky about the salient details:-
"She was given a set of written instructions for a theme tune for a new science fiction series. She turned those guidelines into the swirling, shimmering Doctor Who title music - although it is the memo's author, Ron Grainer, who is credited as the composer."
As one of my younger colleagues at Uni would say - My bad.

no worries, we knew what you meant, and it's quite cool news anyway. Thanks for posting it.

I always think that calling it the "BBC Radiophonic workshop" makes it 'sound' a lot more exciting that it probably is. I imagine that they should just have been the "Sound effects and theme music department" ...

Kaz Posted Jul 18, 2008
Oh I think that's a bit tight. They did a lot of experimental stuff. There was a documentary on not so long ago about it.
Key: Complain about this post
