Well that was just a good enjoyable romp. I never read any Agatha Christie, but the Cluedo parts were fun. As mentioned the gay thing actually had a point, not something you could say about Torchwood. I was annoyed about the kiss though, I really didnĀ“t want them go get it on.

Secretly Not Here Any More Posted May 17, 2008
Didn't mind the kiss. Only because when he said "I need a shock", I had a horrifying split second when I thought that CT's pendulous breasts would be exposed, thus causing widespread vomiting.
Her acting's getting better by the episode though, I think.

What was the nod to Blink?
I've only read one Agatha Christie - were there a lot of references to novel titles? Because some of the things that were being said sounded as if they could be (in which case, that would be a "nod" to the Shakespeare episode?)
I loved it, the costumes were gorgeous and the Agatha Christie actress was superb.
I can't believe we have to miss an ep next week though

Was the statue the nod to Blink?
Good news - the next two are by Steven Moffat so should be goodies.
The final four are by Russell Tedious.

loved this one. Silly fun, a good laugh, not too serious but kept bits and pieces running too. loved the way they started out to enjoy their adventure without it being all doom and gloom. There were aa few references to novel titles that I caught, and I've not read any AC. Sparkling cyanide etc...
I enjoyed it. Good, clean family fun

Elentari Posted May 18, 2008
As soon as they said Professor Peach, I thought there was going to be a Cluedo reference. That was funny.
I also liked how Donna kept mentioning things Agatha Christie hadn't done yet.
Dr Who.
Elentari Posted May 18, 2008
It is, but Professor Peach was obviously going to be a reference, no-one's actually called that! And then he said he was going to the library...
Dr Who.
Sho - employed again! Posted May 18, 2008
The Cluedo thing was excellent. We even had a "Miss Scarlett" and "Rev Green" character too - plus the others.
Dr Who.
Sho - employed again! Posted May 18, 2008
Oh and I just remembered the other thing that made us - Donna saying "that's like Charles Dickens being surrounded by ghosts at Christmas"
Dr Who.
Xanatic Posted May 18, 2008
Donna herself mentioned the Cluedo reference, "Come on, Professor Peach, in the library, with a lead pipe?" and the assorted characters did seem to be taken straight from there. Makes me want to watch the Cluedo movie again. Still no one who noticed the Blink reference then?

Orcus Posted May 18, 2008
There was also a colonel Mustard character was there not?
I thought that was tripe yesterday, worst episode of Dr. Who I've ever seen for me
The only bit that really amused me was the bit where Catherine Tate did the. "C'mon, Professor Peach, in the Library with the Lead Piping" as I've been shouting Cluedo at the screen for the whole programme so far.
Otherwise, a nothing episode for me. Pointless.

Bright Blue Shorts Posted May 18, 2008
I enjoyed it. I don't think it had much to do with the storyarc other than a bit of "Choice" at the end, but I liked it. A nice contained bit of Saturday night entertainment.
A few nods I spotted ...
- liked the Doctor's "Murder at the Vicarage" (Vicar's Rage) comment.
- The box out of the Unicorn's window is similar to a bottle thrown over a cliff in "Evil under the Sun".
- I'm sure the statue falling off and killing the maid is somewhere in one of the films.
- the standard detective reveals who done it scene. Very well crafted.
Obviously this wasn't meant to be a perfect AC murder mystery and I think the only major digression from a typical AC novel is that the murderer is usually impossible to work out. It's usually someone who's out of the country, or travelling from London at the time, or dead, or the butler, the detective or them all. AC introduces new information right at the end that the detective spotted, but isn't mentioned in the text. Bloody infuriating books that are impossible to actually solve!
Enjoyed it though

I liked that episode! Thought the gargoyl was a bit Blink. And they must've had fun slotting in all those book titles too.

WARNING: SOME SPOILERS
Reminded me a lot of the Queen Victoria episode. There was a period setting, a famous figure, an unlikely monster (all pretty standard so far) but also a jewel featuring prominently in the plot, and the Doctor and assistant being chastised for showing inappropriate levity.
I also thought the murder-mystery aspect was very poorly thought out. Most of the 'deductions' at the end seemed to me to be just firmly asserted guesses with no supporting evidence. The identity of the Unicorn was especially silly: all she had to do was continue to deny it, and nobody could have said anything more. Also, the Agatha Christie connection to the monster only existed because he had taken information from the brain of his mother, so how did it have any connection on _her_ whatsoever?
As Radio Times said though, it seems clear that someone had a lot of fun making this (and I think they pointed correctly to writer Gareth Roberts) and, luckily, the fun carried me through the ridiculousness.

"Oh and did anyone notice the nod to the Blink episode?"
The bow and arrow flashback? I noticed it, but it seemed a bit tenuous, especially since Martha wasn't shown in the flashback. I'm pretty sure it was the same prop, though.
