In fact, the revival featured Tennant in one of the roles, as I remember. I didn't manage to watch most of it, though. I hope they repeat it again some time soon.

**a thought occurs**
Stories don't necerily need to be on a huge scale to be amazing... e.g. midnight or blink

NPY Posted May 22, 2009
Ooo Blink was a great story. Moffat seems good at those type of stories.

I liked his clockwork robots one as well. He seems to like setting stories in the past.

The Girl Behind The Fireplace was 'proper' sci-fi with the different movement of time in the two places. Many people don't like it as it did take somethinking to get the concept and the way the story ran.

Girl in the Fireplace was one of my absolute favourite episodes. I really don't understand how/why so many people were getting confused by it.

"Many people didn't like it"
Really? I haven't heard anyone with a bad thing to say about that episode.

HonestIago Posted May 24, 2009
Thinking about it, one of the outstanding features of Moffat's episodes is that he uses time travel as a critical part of the stories he writes.
With most of the others, the time-travelling part is just to get the Doctor and Companion to the start of the story and then take them away at the end. It's pretty rare for it to be a feature of the plot.
Moffat manages to use time travel to tell the story, to create situations within the episode.

Alfster Posted May 24, 2009
Yes, Moffat 'knows' what the Dr is all about...he's a sodding Timelord! Yes, it's a device to get to different stories but he does work with the time tool more than RTD did who just used it as a soap opera device...and as we know came coming back to the same bit of time...all the time...

[OFFTOPIC]Yep, I saw that Archive on Sunday ... looks like some good memories in there ... was scaring myself watching the clip of Peter Duncan washing Big Ben ... http://www.bbc.co.uk/archive/bigben/7508.shtml?all=2&id=7508 (the health and safety people would be aghast) and now discovered the round Britain's coastline episode of QED from 1986 http://www.bbc.co.uk/archive/aerialjourneys/5334.shtml?all=1&id=5334[/OFFTOPIC]

By the way, have people noticed that a new assistant's been chosen? Apparently she's pretty much an unknown, which seems to be the way they go more often than not on Who.

again, depends on how good an actress she is but I can't help but be a tad worried that the appearance of the show will change due to the new Doctor and companion. How much of an effect that will have I am not sure, and what that effect will be I am also not sure. Will certainly drive some off, but will attract others. And whilst there is the worry of a Whedonesque styling of the show and what has been called the 'hollyoaks in space' effect I'm not sure that the later will stick with it for too long.
It isn't how I'd have done it, but then for some strange reason the BBC didn;t see fit to consult with me first, the fools

Todaymueller Posted Jun 5, 2009
I dunno I guess us olduns just do not like change , A young Doctor and young assistant ? A recipie for hollyoaks in space , as has been pointed out . But we will all just have to wait and see wont we . The BBC have a very profitable franchise with Doctor Who and it is unlikely they would jeperdize that .
