Well done all. I've tried to alter my ID name to be more appropriate but it seems to be stuck at the moment. It might just be a coookie crunching thing but anyway, don't care! Congratulations everyone. Fire up the new servers and put your analyst on danger money baby!!!

Doughy, full details of the user account transition and other things, are still being finalised. We're currently rounding of an FAQ that should answer all (hopefully) questions, but please ask so we make sure we've covered everything.

My researcher ID question is 'can I get my old u number back?', as that's 14210893 lower than my current one?

Questions:
The BBC have a non-exclusive right to anything and everything we write here. Will noohootoo have the same contract, or similar, or will it be more exclusive, or what?
Put another way - is there any reason you can think of, other than simple cussedness, why anyone would WANT to prevent anything they'd written for the BBC version of h2g2 being handed over in its entirety to noohootoo? Are we, as "writers" (ooh, get her), going to lose anything by the transfer of ownership?
(Note: I reiterate my admittedly non-specialist speculation that whether we want our stuff handed over or not is academic - if any individual answers "no" that question, is it even technically feasible to fillet the site of their input? It is, from an aesthetic point of view, very very obviously not desirable, but I think that even if there was a point to it, I don't think you could do it even in principle for anyone whose contributions were any more extensive than, say, nighthoover's.
Now THERE is a thought...
Pastey mentioned emailing everyone to let them know that h2g2 is moving... presumably emailing everyone who has ever been a user of the site... which includes...
HE MAY RETURN!!!

Oh thank heavens H2G2 is safe!! I know I'm not on here that often any more, but I do clock in occasionally, and I'm always happy when I have!!
May there be many more happy years of H2G2C2!!
Lollipops to all,
L xx

Not quite right. Without checking the Ts and Cs I can't remember what the BBC said they will and won't do with our email addresses, but they certainly won't do anything to contravene the Data Protection Act.
There's a lot to be worked out but the Technical and Community teams are determined that there should be no researcher left behind.

Note: about Taff and to Taff:
Amid all the hoohah (which I agree with - all of it), it seems that Taff may not be able to partake.
How's about if we all eMail his bosses to petition them to permit the new place just for him?
Address, please, Taff...
Or else we'll miss you.
Rod

That's not a bad idea Rod, although I'd suggest instead of us all emailing his bosses (that might psiss them off), we get come up with a strategy to approach them from the community. I think Taff and c2 have had convos about Taff's access already, might be good to folloow that up. Taff?
