So the Internet finally has a place where people can go to calm their restless minds? Chances are, the ones that think this will work have become too corrupted by constant overloads of information to ever rest. They will try to subvewrt the blank page and make it as crowded as the rest of the net.

Maybe you could send that email informing service users headed by our aliases so that it does not look like spam? I had never even heard of H2G2, so I guess I logged in before you decided on your current name.

Yes, "H2G2" is fairly recent. Before then, at least until April 1999, we were called h2g2. I can see the possibility for confusion...

I see by my post that everyone who has posted to a BBC thread got the email, whether or not if they have used H2G2 specifically, or not as in the case of myself. My BBC login history goes back to aroundabout 1992, so forgive me if I worry about your newbieism

Ah! Farslayer - you're from 606 aren't you? Well, it's very nice of you to drop by.
Have you had a look round h2g2? We're moving house, so excuse the packing crates everywhere.
Do you think you'll stay?

Ah. Whereas I joined h2g2 nearly three years before the BBC became involved with them, so from *my* pov *you* are the newbie.

When you're logged into BBCiD and come over and look at content on h2g2 (even if you don't realise it) a sort of duplicate user account is created over here because of the "My Space" and Preferences and stuff specific to this site.
We hope you stay anyway, we're not all that geeky, honest. Actually we're not that geeky at all. Mostly.

Why are we ashamed to be geeky? The world needs geeks! Would we have ever discovered or invented anything without them?
Celebrate your geekhood!

I*m ier than my sisters, but then only one of them has a computer and it*s brand new.
I*m ier than the rest of the family, though.
I*m proud to be the one they call when they have an abacus problem.

Pastey Posted Jul 23, 2011
I still state that the abacus is one of the most powerful devices ever invented. When used in the right hands. Seriously, I've seen old guys using abacuses and their fingers fly across the beads for a few seconds and they've added, subtracted, multiplied, etc, etc and come up with answers before people have even got their calculators switched on. And slide rules?! Just a modern version.
Key: Complain about this post
