Dear Icy North,
Congratulations mon ami. I cannot thihk of anyone who deserves it more. I know that you have been a tower of strength to me, one of nthe oldest researchers on the site - agewise - and yet you have never let me feel either unwanted or particularly stupid.!!
I have some extraordinarily wonderful news and I do not know how to share it: hopefully I shall think of a way. !!

Hello Christiane 
It's an unusual honour, but it can be the 10,000th without 9,999 others. Every week I stumble across some amazing entry that I hadn't seen before - it really is a fascinating collection of writing, and that's not to mention all the wonderful fiction and other articles in the Underguide and the h2g2 Post.
I really hope the site can go on to make 20,000. It does keep a lot of talented people off the streets

I'm hoping that an alien reading our guide entries would have first been plied with 
by Ford Prefect, to soften the blow and put the alien in a mellow frame of mind.
