They're not filming the books or the radio series - they're filming a script originally written by Douglas, which takes much of the radio series, but adds several completely new elements at the same time. After all, it wouldn't be Hitchhikers if it didn't contradict every previous version, would it?

I'd love it if it were shot here in Vancouver! Not that far fetched since it is the third biggest production centre in NA after LA and NY. *And* we've got more locations that could be Britain in a pinch (plus the rain!). Perhaps it would force you all to have a meet here, even though there are only 3 of us.smiley - laugh

btw- there are lots of classic film teamster jokes-

How many teamsters does it take to screw in a lightbulb? 37- ya got a problem with that?

How can you tell when a teamster dies? His donut falls out of his hand.

Actually, we shouldn't laugh about that, one did die the other day- but they had to wake up 15 teamsters before they found out.

How can you tell the child of a teamster in the playground? He's the one standing in the corner watching the other kids play.

There's a game with teamsters somewhere on the net, I played it when i should have been revising for something or other.

If it does happen here, you can keep track of it at this site:

As to the meet, I imagine the CDN$800 or £350 or so the flight would cost would be well worth it, believe me! smiley - smiley

That's a good deal! I'm just going by the prices I see in the paper, I'm sure there are better fares. I can't help talking up my city, though. It has a lot going for it, and now even though the Terminator is trying to stop *runaway* productions here, we have everything H2G2 would need. Well.....we don't have a really hot cup of tea for the I.I. drive....smiley - laugh

I hear that Vancouver is getting more work because of US film taxes increasing in major cities.

When it was 70 cents to the US$ the productions came because the cost of the crew (30%) was in effect free. Years of production here has produced very experience, talented crews so that now the dollar is at 82 cents they still come. That and the fact that like Chris Carter of XFiles fame said, the city is a character in itself. And we have mountains, desert, ocean, lakes, and forests within close range. Plus as you say the city, province, and country hasn't tried to cash in on permits, etc. for the wide variety of locations downtown. We have a British base of colonisation with large Asian, Indian, First Nations, etc. population as well (strangely it is difficult to find a large black population here, I'm not sure why that is since this was actually one of the termini (?) of the Underground Railway during the US Civil War). The buildings reflect this too.

Yes, I remember seeing a report on that (film migration) and the usefulness of the provence's scenery.

Oh I saw an article a while back, some small town in Britain trying to big itself up as the new film location, because from ground level it "looks quite a lot like New York".

You can call me TC

If it is filmed in Vancouver or at Pinewood, not all hootooers will be able to come - or invited. So as compensation for the rest of us, perhaps they could oraganise a special premiere showing for researchers.

Er....

Do they have premieres in pubs?

I don't think it would be right to have studio extras impersonating real hootooers when the genuine article is a click away.
