27 November 2002: Server Downtime Planned for 28 November 2002
The H2G2 Editors Started conversation Nov 27, 2002
The DNA servers are due to be moved tomorrow and this will result in h2g2 being unavailable from 9 am GMT. We hope to keep the downtime to a minimum and hope that the process should be completed by 11:30 am GMT. However, we have been warned that there's a very low risk that it might take longer should the move not go smoothly.
We apologise for the lack of notice, but the downtime has only recently been confirmed as going ahead. We had hoped to announce this yesterday, but unfortunately we lost email and internet connectivity within our section of the BBC for the whole afternoon, which made it a bit tricky.

Ye Gads! Am I expected to actually do some work tomorrow morning instead of just pretending to while I post here?!

No, they sing them love songs, ply them with glasses of champagne and tell them heartwarming stories before geting down on their knees...

9 am GMT, eh? That's 3 am here; maybe I'll actually go to sleep that early for a change.

Oh, and well done Kelli, by the way. You win a slice of virtual, calorie-free cake!
(The great thing about virtual is it tastes just the same whether it's fattening or not).
Whoami?

The servers are being moved from one location to another. This is because BBC Internet Services, who look after the them, are moving to new headquarters in Maidenhead and the servers are, naturally, going too.

Ta Whoami? I like the too, which I am choosing to believe is raspberry flavoured
Are they expecting to get a physical server move all done in 2 hours? That'll be impressive, those sorts of things usually take *ages*.
I'll have to buy the paper early tomorrow and surreptitiously do the crossword instead

Hi Kelli
With regard to the timing of this, I am relying on the knowledge of the mighty Jim Lynn. He seemed to think the timing was reasonable for the work they have to do, but did say that there was a possibility it might over run.
