It should speed up *all* conversations, so PR should benefit as well.
By the way, please don't repost just to correct typos - I keep thinking our new anti-doubleposting code has broken until I spot the single letter you've corrected. Just as a favour to me. Or you could use the extremely useful 'Preview' feature to check over what you've written before you post it.
I know it's annoying to have typos there in perpetuity, but if you repost, you're really just drawing attention to it in the first place (since the typo remains in the original post). If you left it, most people wouldn't notice, trust me.

I never noticed a double post remover. It didn't appear in the release notes did it?

I realised the typo as soon as I pressed 'post message' and pressed escape almost immediately. I didn't think it would have posted that fast. It's not as if I posted it and felt compelled to change the typo cos I couldn't stand it there. I don't see what the fuss is about
Good idea for a double-post remover though.

Trouble is, once you've pressed 'Post' you're committed. The server will continue to process the request regardless of the fact that you've pressed Escape.

I finally got around to trying out the frameset thingy. Seems to work quite well. Here's the source, if anyone's interested: ---

That's not dissimilar to what I tried (apart from the Alibaster ) but I found that the framed H2G2 page wasn't properly logged in - it kept giving me the wrong conversation type and always had a "Register" button where "My Space" was supposed to be...

Of course if you used Opera you wouldn’t need to mess around with all that frameset stuff you could just make the POPUPCONVERSATIONS into a panel

Yeah... But the point of the frameset is to get as much screen space utilised fruitfully as possible by using F 11 under IE to get a full-screen frameset; without paying for it, Opera eats space with ads... That kind of negates the saving...

Opera has a Full Screen Mode as well (also F11)

Does that lose the ad bar in the unregistered version?

One more question: I have a thread that I'm subscribed to that is registering "" in the conversation list on my page, but at the Conversation Popup, it doesn't have any sort of title--that space is blank. (I haven't read the backlog; this may have already been answered or addressed... ) Is there anyway to make the Popup register it as or something else like that?

Going back to Post 112 for a moment...
Why can't you take out the target='_top'? Isn't the framed version parsed separately from the single page version? The links are a different color.

There's an awful lot of shared code in there, so it's difficult to split them out.

Amy the Ant - High Manzanilla of the Church of the Stuffed Olive Posted Feb 27, 2002
*a light bulb comes on*
I've just had an insightful thought. I'll go and lie down in a moment but let me share it with you first. You'll have to read it through right to the end to see why I am posting it in this thread.
I've been trying to figure out why we get so many "I don't understand this site" threads started by newbies - often in the oddest of places. I think they are posting to conversations and then sitting there watching their spaces waiting for replies. But they never get any because it never occurs to them to refresh the page.
If we're lucky, they'll come back another day and find that they had apparently just missed a whole rash of replies. A few more visits and the penny finally drops.
So, what if there was a message at the top of the list of conversations suggesting that regular refreshing of that page would be A Good Idea or alternatively offering a link to this nifty self-refreshing popup?
I need a cup of .
