We'll get used to it...
It will be better when we get the new skin though. There's a bit too much space taken up by the both of the nav bars and the banner ad at the moment...

Can you give us any hints about the new skin? What style will it be futuristic and shiny and black?

Right, now where was I? Oh! I've alwaays thought that a 'busy' skin, sort of in the style of the Editors' pick blobs, white background, straightforward but brimming with colour and excitement, would be nice. But Peta said it isn't like that, a while ago. So darn it, I'll have to wait a while...

It should be nice and clear. GOO and Alabaster seem really.. I dunno... frantic? it should be bold, too. i think a dark background with light text would work well, and it should have something similar to the Goo menu (The side and top bits). One thing it should not be like is the new BBCi homepage. It's terrible! All grey and messy! Urrgh!!!

I think it's largely been designed and they're looking at implementing it, but they're still tweaking it, and testing it, and all the other quality control stuff - which usually takes a few months to do, it's a major task, and they're not exactly free from other matters to deal with...
We love the , don't we? (Reply with yesses and be very, although not nauseatingly, nice to them, for without them this place wouldn't even work...

No! Dark on light is definately better on the eyes...
I like the fact that h2g2 has its own category in the new BBCi system by the way - nice one guys!

Actually, the part that's taking the time is converting the HTML implementation into XSLT. Not trivial, that.
And no, sorry, no hints on the design yet, as it's not finalised enough for us to comment. Soon, though, soon.

*Faints whith the overwhelming greyness of the page*
Who do those guys hire to do that? I mean come on! Can you imagine them having a brainstorming session...?
'We need a new look for the nice, clean, user friendly BBC front page. Any ideas?'
'Why don't we have it in several putrid, outragiously bad shades of grey and put in boxes scattered around with the worst available font?'
'Sounds good to me! Nice and dull, that's how we like it!'

I think the idea is that as it is a global navigation bar, grey is the colour that will go with as many different colour schemes as possible...

Well, it is ugly and unneccessery, but it isn't that bad, and it *IS* nice to have the big old h2g2 logo back on the Goo corner
If we have a few more buttons on the BBCi bar, can we have "Don't Panic" back instead of help ?

BBC.... i?
YEY! What we've always wanted! BBC Idiots! BBC Imbeciles! BBC "It"
yeah, I'm glad to finally see the original goo.. and maybe if they give us preferences (like the betsie system ones) for colours and content listed on the bar it shouldn't be a problem!
Just count yourselves lucky they didn't opt for frames whereas however down the page you were, the toolbar would still be at the very top of every page.. !
I've always believed in a Dont Panic! and Help button which was two images *but looked like one ; ie using Paint shop pros image slicer) might not work- and newbies who haven't ever seen THHGTTG or heard it.. and therefore won't know what Don't Panic! Refers to, will get confused.. but i hope the h2g2 staff can come to some kind of solution (with the help of the h2g2 Volunteers of course )
Im just wondering what happened to h2g2s cookies? I had to use Aster to log in with again!
I'm still checking my email address with the 52 emails the two ace and guru lists have been inundated with..
So I'm back off to read them, and when I get back I'll comment with a fuller knowledge of what has happened..
aka
PS - Please, Please.. Bring back the Don't panic! Button, too...

I use seperate mails, it is easier to reply to, easier to manage, and I have SOOO many mails from h2g2 (Scouts, Gurus, AS, muses, GAs, EdimbraPissup)... Also, I get them on time to reply quickly, and get extra scout picks when I'm quick enough to grab them (This is where I thank Bossel, a good good man!)
Yours,
Dancer

I agree, separate e-mails wiv proper filtering is best, the thing that annoys me most about people who use digest is when thy hit the reply button "Re: Digest Number 460" means nothing to anyone - why cant they copy over the title of the message they are replying to ?

Yep, but my webmail died after two weeks and 500 new mails - almost a disaster. With daily digest, I can go on holiday in peace.
