Well we're probably going to be sticking with the UK regions for at least another couple of weeks or so - still quite a long way to go until we've got comprehensive coverage of them.

I'd imagine we'll probably launch the Kings & Queens thing in mid-November - so stay tuned for that one!

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am...

As a useful aside to the Kings and Queens project I'm currently polishing up the Topic of the Week Entry about Oliver Cromwell, so you'll be able to link to that from Charles I and Charles II.

Seriously, I'll organise the kings and queens if I don't have to write any of the entries.

Oooh, that sounds like we've got a volunteer there! Cheers EMR! We won't be calling on your services for at least a month or so, but make sure you shout up as soon as we announce it!

I have information on Queen Alexandra wife of Edward VII is it just kings and queens of England? as I have extended knowledge of the Danish Royal Family and how 90% of Europe's royal families can trace their family tree to Christian IX

That sounds marvellous. I've been re-watching a very old BBC TV drama series lately called 'Fall Of Eagles', which charts the way in which the three big European Royal Families interweaved with each other. It's set between about 1840 and the final murder of Tsar Nicholas and the rest of the Romanoff line in 1917, and it's rather fab.

So yeah, an entry about the importance of the other European royal lines would be GREAT! smiley - smiley

EMR, by organising the Kings&Queens did you mean overseeing the project because I wouldn't mind writing the index page/introduction to it, unless that was what you meant by overseeing it. Not used to University (as I would assume this would be) projects so not quite sure how it works.

My Mum's got that on DVD Paully. Patrick Stewart plays a really good Lenin

Well out of Chrisitan IX 6 children, 1 married into the russian royal family, 1 into the British, 1 into the German, 1 became King of Denmark and 1 became King of Greece. not bad for a man who was poor and had been set up as King by outside influences

Tony, I was figuring that I would do the index page, since if I'm organising it I'll be the one who keeps track of who's writing what entry. But if you'd like to write some sort of introductory paragraph(s) to the project (when it happens, of course) that would be cool.smiley - smiley

I'd just like to point out that we already have entries on Edward II (which could probably do with some updating), Henry II, Stephen, Elizabeth I and Richard III, plus several pre-Norman monarchs. Would these be incorporated into any hypothetical project as well?

Paully, any time you want information on Queen Alexandra, Empress Marie of Russia or Princess Thyra of Hannover just ask

Radox The Green has been Elvised through no fault of his own but is hoping to be around a bit more for the forseeable (recently reading up on English history too so this could be a timely event). smiley - cool

Hi Radox!

There most certainly *should* be a thread on Somerset in the Challenge h2g2 Forum - although I'm not sure if too many people have had a chance to contribute to it as yet.

Glad to see you're back!

Thanks Paully, I'm not sure how much time I can allocate to H2G2 though, as other pressures have been keeping me away (like fixing the hole in the roof). Still, this project is certainly of interest and I think it's time I gave a bit more priority towards H2G2 again.smiley - whistle

Besides, I've been wondering what use my late fathers old books and papers could be (he used to work at Radstock museum). I've only looked at a few items so far but there seems to be some useful stuff there that could be turned into the odd guide entry or two.

Most of it is Somerset coal mine related as my Grandfather was a miner and Father had a natural interest about it but there are a lot of general Somerset books etc. there too. I'm sure I could cobble something together from these sources.smiley - smiley
