You use it for a longer period of time, than you
intended to... erm... yes... who doesn't?
(You all *knew* that this subject would be brought up, so why not start with it! )

I was going to mention my severe h2g2 addiction. RL has made me very, very busy lately, and the thing I resent the most is not having the time here that I need.

You use it in larger amounts, or for a longer period of time, than you intended to.
Yes, I only popped on for 30 mins. As usual. That was 2 hours ago.
You spend a large amount of time obtaining, using, or recovering from the effects of your addiction.
Does longing glances at cyber cafes when I'm out and not allowed to go in them count?
You've reduced - or given up - work, recreational or social activities as a result of your addiction.
Oh dear yes. I gave up one of my 2 days work a week as I was annoyed at being away from h2g2. And I often come home in the day or finish early on the remaining one to get here. I stopped watching TV, doing jigsaws, and crafts in the evenings nearly two years ago. (AGB, I WILL finish your birthday present! It's only 7 months since your birthday.) I stopped visiting other mums for coffee and chatting in the day about a year ago.
You continue, despite suffering from physical or psychological problems caused by your addiction.
Oh yes, tendonitis (I used to call it RSI accidently) is often a problem at the end of a busy week. And sometimes I get back ache because I've been sitting in the chair too long.
Is there an h2g2 anonymous? I need the 12 step plan!

TV? TV? *dim memory of having some sort of box in living room, not sure what it was good for, haven't used it for quite some time*
...and I even got hysterical while they were putting up that ugly beeb thing at the top - couldn't post, got error messages...

If I've had a few I end up writing the URL to my user space down for people I've been chatting to in the pub instead of giving them my phone number or email address.

I just realized I've stopped watching television since becoming addicted to h2g2 ... ironic since my landlords recently got a satellite dish, and I now get over 200 channels. Not one even remotely as interesting as h2g2, of course!

When I get interrupted in the middle of my h2g2ing I get really hyperactive...last time my parents kicked me off for a few minutes during which I ran around the upstairs of the hause 15 times without stopping, played my drumkit really fast then went outside and climbed a tree.

cafram - in the states. Posted Nov 10, 2001
I came online to check my email AND THAT'S ALL 4 hours ago. I have an essay due on Monday which accounts for 50% of my grade, which I haven't started, because I'm here. I get home at midnight and log on for two hours before I go to bed. I skip class to see if there have been any replies to my postings. I get agitated when there aren't, and wander into random conversations in the hope of eliciting a reply. My life without h2g2 would be inconceivable - the people, the conversations, the vibe - it's fantastic.

There is an H2G2 Addiction Group started by Wowbagger here http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/F65289&thread=106849&skip=2080&show=20 that he uses for his "h2g2 life".

The only problem I have with an addiction group is the fact that after you admit you have an addiction (which I readily do), you are expected to actually do something to overcome the addiction. I don't really want to do that!

I have an addiction, and I posted it here, but nobody has responded yet and I'm not entirely sure if it is an addiction, but rather a simpton of possible mental illness.
