"Statesmen will invent cheap lies, putting blame upon the nation that is attacked, and every man will be glad of those conscience-soothing falsities, and will diligently study them, and refuse to examine any refutations of them; and thus he will by and by convince himself that the war is just, and will thank God for the better sleep he enjoys after this process of grotesque self-deception."

Wish I'd seen this conversation earlier...
"I have become death, the destroyer of worlds."
Yep, it is indeed a translation from the Bhagavadgita. And Oppenheimer, who supervised the atomic bomb project, quoted it when he saw the first successful test of an atomic bomb in New Mexico. Some sources say that he actually said it in Sanskrit. He was opposed to the proliferation of atomic weapons and his quote was meant as a personal reflection on the implications of what he'd done.
Everyone of the great scientists, Fermi, Feynman and so on, had an interesting reaction at that moment.
Hmmm... quote for today...
"I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." -- Albert Einstein
