NO absolutely not. (I hope that this response to Mund does not end up as a confused simulpost)
I think that the most important and positive thing that can possibly come from this is species wide soul searching, redefinition of the rules and ethics of conflict and an overwhelming understanding of the universality of greif and terror.
There are many who oppose the policies of the United States, and many for good reason. Yet such mindless slaughter will only further increase the sadness and fear in the world.
I hope for fundamental change.

"I very much doubt they will do something precipitous."
Like it didn't when it bombed Tripoli...
Or when Clinton sent out the bombers in the middle of the Lewinsky affair...
Or when american pilots turned the road to Baghdad into a turkey shoot...

Perhaps the Oklahoma incident taught a certain degree of caution...
There seems to be some discussion of an international, cooperative response to this.
Anyway, my comment was directed in regards to the current strife in Kabul
If the US *knew* who their enemy was, I have no doubt bombers and troops would already be enroute. As it is, they will (hopefully) wait until there is evidence, before blazing away at someone.
We are a nasty species, aren't we?

Fairly Strange, the term 'folks', as such, didn't 'annoy' me - indeed it could be prophetic going by these definitions of the word.
1: a group of kindred tribes forming a nation.
2: the great proportion of the members of a people that determines the group character and that tends to preserve its characteristic form of civilisation and its customs, arts and crafts, legends, traditions, and superstitions from generation to generation.
What did 'annoy' me, no make that, what did 'frighten' me, was the body language of Dubya as he read his lines, and also the fact he (or possibly someone else) had to write them down.

in other words 'folks' could be mean people one are friends with, or share common background with? that is, in it's true definition. In which case it was inappropiately used. but what's new?

Oh for Pete's sake! The man has several thousand of his fellow citizens slaughtered and you guys are quibbling over his vocabulary? Give me a break!
Note: I used colloquialisms. Anyone want to make something of that?

When I heard Tony Blair on the radio, he was saying most of the right things and there was a catch in his voice (he's good at sincerity). I prayed (in a godless way) that he wasn't reading it. And then later there were the TV pictures and he wasn't. A strange kind of contentment, but real nonetheless.

200 firemen are believed dead.
There is nothing one can say to that.

Wag the Dog, I agree
I don't agree with you on this one though. The road to baghdad was filled with military personel...what would you have them to do? Let them go so that they could fight again? Standard military tactics employed in all wars. The pilots probably learned this in JROTC.
We are a nasty species, but it's what we have to work with.
America will not attack anyone without evidence against them, if America can not stand up for that then the United States stands for nothing. When we do find out, there will be hell to pay

I didn't know they had started retrieving bodies yet - not with the danger of more immenent collapse.
Where are you getting these numbers from?

"200 firemen are believed dead."
I was thinking about that when the first tower collapsed. I knew that there would be firemen still going back into the second building with the knowledge that it was only a matter of time before that building also collapsed, and yet they would still go back in to help.
This is the flipside of the evil which caused the tragedy - the bravery of those men and women putting their lives in danger to help others.

There is something, probably many things fundamentally wrong with the world.
I... words are so difficult to find... to everyone personally involved, I am so sorry. This... I have no idea.
To the world, feel bad. There is something wrong and you need to find what it is.
I hope I don't wake up to worse.

I'm shocked and horrified and dismayed. Tearful and upset. My relatives are in America, but thankfully on the West Coast. I can't get through to them, and I don't want to tie up the Transatlantic lines because there are so many with greater need than me.
All my sympathies. All my hurt. All my horror.
All my hope that we can make a new and better world (didn't our parents say that? and our Grandparents? And all our ancestors? Why is history so cyclical?)

Iraq just called these events 'the fruit of American inhumanity against the world'!
There is truly evil and madness afoot today.
I am shocked, outraged and disgusted!
God help us.
