Hoovooloo, some of us appreciate the update here.
For various reasons known to various people I am not in direct communication with either David or his partner. I imagine I am not the only member of this community that applies to. So I appreciate David's updates here on site.

I can understand that, Ben. It just strikes me as a deeply odd thing to do.
There's a very large, guestbook equipped website, linked to from various pages around h2g2, or easily findable by anyone who cares even a little bit by typing four letters into Google. I would have thought that was a more appropriate place for such public announcements, far more appropriate than a site variously described by the person under discussion in the many emails to me and others as "That Damned Place", "toxic", "full of hate" and many other epithets.
I'm honestly curious why this thread didn't just consist of a link to that site and a brief request for anyone who cared to look there - especially as the person under discussion has very recently pleaded for all references to her to be expunged from this site.
H.
Baffled.

I expect that this thread exists with the consent of the persons being discussed, so if it's their feelings you're worried about sparing, Hoovooloo, then I doubt that calling the appropriateness of these updates into question is the best way to do that.
I expect it's being done here, rather than offsite, as a courtesy to those who are interested to know what's going on, and who know how to subscribe to conversations that they want to have conveniently appear in 'my conversations', and how to unsubscribe to those they don't.
If you have a question for David that relates to his intention behind this thread, rather than the contents of it, why not ask him on his personal space, so that some singleness of purpose can be maintained here, as a courtesy to those who prefer, for whatever reason, to get their updates here? In that same spirit, if you'd like to reply to this post of mine, you're quite welcome to come to my page and do so, or to email. For my part, I shan't post here again.
Thanks, David, for finding this way to reach those who want to be reached. It's mighty thoughtful of you, IMO.

Baffled by many things, but selective of time and place when seeking clarification.

Biopsy went quickly and smoothly. They're in the hospital overnight for observation.
Results some time next week.
For everyone who has expressed support, thank you.

Update: The folks in the hospital have decided that there's more behind their difficulty breathing and cough than the asthma. They're keeping them for another day or two to figure out "what's going on with her lungs."
Thank you again for your continuing support and positive thoughts.

Best wishes sent, Xyroth.
Preliminary results are good. It looks like they'll probably be on immunosuppresants for a couple of years. That was the best possible realistic outcome of the biopsy.
To everyone who has cared, thank you.

That is good news. Do the immunosuppresants deal with the kidney problems or only with the lung problems?
And once again, thanks for keeping us up to date here, I for one do appreciate it.

Barring something unforseen, this will be my last post here.
Once again, thanks to everyone who offered support and encouragement.
Being who they are, they couldn't develop an illness easy to spell - or say.
Membranoproliferative Glomerulonephritis - Type III.
Go ahead, say it three times, fast.
It's not at all common (the Type III part), but *does* respond to treatment.
Thanks again.

The hospital Emergency Room admitted them yesterday. Their gall bladder comes out tomorrow. Completely unrelated to the other problem, but... what timing!

Blimey! I had been going to say 'not good', but I guess it is better out than in. Oh dear.
Thanks for the updates, David. I wish all of you and all of them well.

Any idea how long they'll have to stay in hospital after the operation?

David Conway Posted Jul 1, 2002
The surgery went really well. They should be home within 24 hours, except for their gall bladder, which we've banned from our home for life.
