Actually I would say go for the one that will help you the most later in lif. If Catholic has teh better rep it might be a ggood bet. I sounds like you have a better "in" at UCI tho.

MR, what are the pros and cons of each one? which one will get you further in life? which one will be a more pleasant environment? which one is more prestigious?

Sea, so many questions!
Well, pros of Irvine are location, that they seem eager to have me, and that they let me into their Phd program. Cons...well, location (not a huge fan of SoCal). And no religon department.
Pros of Catholic are easy access to the vatican archives, the name, and the fact that there's a ton of culture. Cons are that they only let me in provisionally to their master's program, and that they don't seem terribly interested in whether I go or not.
More prestige is definitely on Catholic's side. Atmosphere is on Irvine's.
Which one is best for me? Hell, I don't know. I'm going to say Irvine, simply because I will be done faster, and thus, broke for fewer years. And the fact that they want me. It's nice to be wanted.
