my suggestion to you would be to go to a website like apartments.com and search that way... if you sort the results by price, you can find some deals.
not knowing what exactly you want, it's hard to find much for ya.

2 bedroom, takes cats. that's about it. washer and dryer hookups would be good, but not absolutely necessary. I'm not picky, I just don't want to live somewhere with 8 foot fences and gangs (South Long Beach, for example....Compton would be out, too). Do you think it would help to put in ad in the Orange County Register under roommates wanted or something?

Ummmm....yeah. The cheapest place I found was 895 bucks, and that was 40 miles from UCI. And wouldn't take cats. Yikes.....

unfortunately, unless you life somewhere with 8 foot fences and gangs, you're unlikely to find rents much lower than that for a 2 bedroom. advertising for a roomie might work...
most 2 bedroom apartments in this area are 1200-1500/month.

sea, here's the deal. You find a house with 6 bedrooms. Me, the hub and the small person will take 2 rooms. You take one. We find three other people to take the other 3. In the center of LA, halfway between UCI and USC. We hope to god we can afford it.

Not sure if anyone's really paying close attention to this forum. I swing by myself only about once a month - no real excuse for that except it all seemed to quiet down back in 2002 sometime.

I miss Maryland terribly.
Not enough theatres,museums, or people who read here...
But, actually its not anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be, and I have met some nice people, so yeah, so far its okay!

Well I suppose that Lawton isn't exactly know as a mecca of culture, is it?
I can understand missing all of that, though. I felt the same way when I moved to Killeen from SLC. (My latest move.) Now that I'm headed to Austin though, I get my life back.
