Actually, I like socks.
I'm not ready to be yet. I'm giving
it another five years. (There some who already
eye my waistline, but it's not of Santaic
proportions...yet.)
I like Englander's program. Expecting tiny children
to believe in while pretty much everyone
over ten does not seems contemptuous to me. And
that other story about angels and mangers and
shepherds silly enough to have their sheep out in
the fields in cold weather? I'd rather watch (or
listen to) "The Nutcracker." At least that fantasy
makes no claims for authenticity.

Alec Trician. (is keeping perfectly still) Posted Dec 16, 2001
sorry...santa claus misses the whole point of Christmas for us.
they are teaching one of the little tricians to sing 'i saw mom kissing santa' at school...
That nicholas of myra was a saint is not in doubt, i've even seen what is left of his bones in the museum in antalya. The stories about him are true, his behaviour at the early church synods for example.
Lest we forget, Christmas is about Jesus Christ, and what he ultimately did for US.
Merry Christmas.
alec and family.

Chirstmas is about buying and selling and is overstrong emphasising Family being Lovely and all...
It´s psychoterror for people who aren´t happy...
That´s why I want to be ! I won´t be coming around...
Alec! Would you give my regards to Jesus, if you see him? I´ve left the church some five years ago, so I guess I will be down in the pits when I die

Christmas can be really tough for people on their own, family and loved ones are important. For those of us who are not in the fortunate position to have someone special and a family around us it can be tough all year, but the sense of something missing is really accute at this time of year.
I am glad for you Alec that you will be able to spend it with the little Tricians and the people you love. That is something very special and I know you value it suitably.
On one level Christmas should be about celebrating what Jesus did for us, on another in our increasingly multi cultural society it has become a time for celebrating togetherness, love and family. These are both important things to celebrate. Togetherness and love may be aspirational for some of us but I think all of us want them to be there.
There is the commercail side too which puts pressures on many people and I dont think is good and I wish was not there.
For me Santa is about spreading joy and happiness to those who maybe feel forgotten, reminding them that somewhere there is someone looking out for them, who wants them to smile. Is that such a bad thing?

It´s not bad... But it´s one of those things that are perticularly remembered around christmas... and it looks like the rest of the year you don´t need to care about family... It should be the other way round. Because we´ve all been thinking about other people, and doing good things, we go and give Santa presents and he distributes them to those who need something dearly... But not just around christmas, and because of somebody getting nailed to trees, etc. Not because of Religion, but because we care. And that 365 days a year (or 366 )

I agree we should care for people all year round, its one of the most important things there is.
I do however also think that we should celebrate the fact that we care and have a time to pause and remember that we do.
If you really need someone or something dealy it can be very hard to accept anyone showing kindness and maybe Santa is a way that the rest of us can show we care without the recipient feeling bad either.
I think we could use an on board Santa all year round ... any volunteers?

loosehead Posted Dec 16, 2001
Merry Xmas to Alec and the little Tricians (they are all bound to be bright sparks as they grow up). And seasons greetings to Englander, who I suspect is like many of us just seeking truth and love - and I find little to fault in being kind to others all year round. For myself I do not enjoy the commercialisation but very much enjoy family, friends, and yes the holiness of Xmas.
Maybe some of us appear to be a pagan at heart but whether we are celebrating simply the end of one year or the birth of Christ I respect the choices we all make to celebrate as we wish.
(Oh and we Scots prefer New Year for many reasons and if you have not been here yet at Hogmany please visit, it is worth seeing...)
Light, I would be happy to spread joy and kindness all year round but I propose Englander for the position if he will accept it.
