Certainly not English, if that's what you mean.

paulh, vaccinated against the Omigod Variant

The only Russian words I know are
"Da" (yes) and "nyet" (no). I learned
a few more when my brother returned
from a trip to Saratov with a two-year-old
boy that he adopted five years. For a while,
little "Sasha" responded more readily to
Russian phrases than English ones. Now
that he knows English so much better,
we have all forgotten the little bit of
Russian that we knew.

smiley - yikes Offering smiley - stiffdrinksmiley - stiffdrink
to Swashbot? Suppose he gets drunk and
starts singing "Louie, Louie" instead
of attending to his duties?

I read/write Russian much better than I can speak it, but it doesn't translate well into latin letters. I have to figure out how it's spelled first, and that's a challenge... boy howdy.smiley - whistle

Ican read and write it too, basicly. But I don't pay much attention on grammar. smiley - winkeye Well, they understand. And my English grammar is only a little better.
Is here any fresh coffee available?

Russian grammar is almost as incomprehensible as English. Til now, I haven't known anyone else who speaks it... this place is amazing, just crawling with sharp people. I hope I can keep up with all of you "smarties".smiley - blush

Russian grammar is far worse than English, believe me. They have some tricks I'm never able to understand. This finished and unfinished thing, I don't even know how to explain it in English. Sovershennyi-nyesovershennyi vid. smiley - yuk Looks awful..

I haven't gotten that far in my lessons yet. I can string a few verbs and nouns together, which may or may not make any sense to anyone. I'm still amazed at length of Russian words, by the time I've sounded out the last few syllabes, I've forgotten the first several. It's as difficult as dragging a live porcupine through a pile of razor blades while barefoot... but 'tis a worthy challenge.

ROFL
The most amazing thing in Russian for me is the number of different ways they can use one word. Adding prefixes and sufixes etc they can actually complete a whole sentence using one primitive word. That goes only to "dirty" words unfortunately.

I have a dictionary of Russian obscenities. Haven't been able to make much sense of itsmiley - blush... but there's one word I'm particularly fond of that means "object covered in frozen cow dung". I suppose a lot of things are coated in that manner in Russia.
