speaking of libraries and smiley - books and such, we should start looking at some charts of bristol and the waters around it

either that or use the SOFA (super omnipotent finder automat)

Wait for a decent high tide and ride the severn bore all the way up to gloucester... Much more fun. YEEEHAW!

or google vid search for severn bore smiley - smiley

Well Paul, it is the second highest tidal range in the WORLD, with as much as 50feet between high and low water. We could put you on a surfboard if Shagbark would lend you his?

boring? coincidentally i just saw a tv-series on some of the worst natural disasters. the severn was mentioned because of some nasty flooding in - was it 1931?

I can't help you there Cap'n Pierce - Britain is generally flooded somewhere or other these days though.

I vote we sail up the Severn Estuary, into the River Avon, under the Clifton Suspension Bridge, into the floating harbour, and moor next to the SS Great Britain, right in the centre of Bristol.

I'm sure we can find a bit of nightlife that will suit the smiley - pirate crew smiley - evilgrin

Pondlife is a closer bet as to what you'd encounter in these here parts on town of a nighttime but i'm sure I could Steer us all in the right direction. Depends if you want fun, cheap booze or cheap men/wimmin. the first two I can sort out, the last one(s) you'd have to sort out for yourself. I advise bringing along Jaegermeister.. Seems to go down well.

It must be a different kind of bore than what I imagined. That surfboard sounds like fun, though. Thanks. smiley - surfer

Oh, and it aint boring! We went to a nightime one around the new moon just gone. Was fab, proper rush just from standing on the bank!

Think I'd like to canoe it one day maybe. My surfing skills aren't up to that much standing around...

The real impact is the power of the water as the front comes past, and the weirdness of a river changing direction in a few seconds. One minute it's sort of gently swirling away downstream and suddenly you have this rapidly rising river going upstream dragging all sorts of flotsam and jetsam with it.

One piece of information suggests that this is a wave that at it's head is only a few inches or a couple of feet high but is about 10 miles thick??? I dont know about that, cant find any more info but it's big and weird and OURS!

Ah -tis a great pity Sire, for the Severn Bore is one of the marvels of the world.

smiley - sadface and it being so long since I lived in Bristol, that the old nightclubs have all closed down. I believe the Thekla is still going though. ( a club on a boat )

This is where I suggest mooring Sire - we won't look at all out of place.

(The SS Great Britain was the first iron hulled boat, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, who also designed Clifton Suspension Bridge)

That's the bridge we sail under to get into the Floating Harbour in the centre of Bristol.
