*gracefully declines mead, but pulls out a cup of chocolate milk instead*
[sea] i'm not TOO jealous. congratulations, affy!!!!
Congratulations!

Thank you, Sea. But I must quickly find out some info to add. There are two conflicting origins behind the term "grue", and I feel that they should both be here. The only one I can remember, though, is that grue stands for "Generated Random Underground Encounter". I can't find the other one, though....
Congratulations!

Oh, just look for it on the Internet. The first three games are now officially Freeware.
Congratulations!

*downloaded them*
gah! i keep dying! stupid troll... how was i supposed to say KILL the troll and not FIGHT the troll or HIT the troll?!?!?! !
enjoying playing...
Congratulations!
Afgncaap5 Posted Jul 13, 2001
It's easier than in the original troll fight. You had to throw a knife at it, and the troll would eat it. Go figure.
Congratulations!
Afgncaap5 Posted Jul 15, 2001
That's the one and only real improvement that the graphical adventures have over the text adventures. No "guess-the-verb" puzzles.
Congratulations!
soeasilyamused, or sea Posted Jul 15, 2001
lol. i'm so much better at the graphical ones... i'm a visual person! just look at my hobbies: technical theatre (lighting design in particular), the internet, photography...
Congratulations!
Afgncaap5 Posted Jul 15, 2001
Trust me, while the graphical games are good, the best ones are still text. Especially the ones written by Steve Meretzky (Zork Zero, Sorcerer, the Planetfall series (not Zork, but he's good in pretty much any medium),....)
Congratulations!
soeasilyamused, or sea Posted Jul 15, 2001
i'll admit that the text ones tend to be more amusing... like when i was in the room that smelled like gas and lit a match!!! lol!
Congratulations!
Afgncaap5 Posted Jul 16, 2001
Or when you purposefully stay in the Cyclops Room after annoying the Cyclops....
*Knows he's probably given away some plot*
Congratulations!

*doesn't mention that she keeps reading the Invisi-Clues for zork 1*
i was never one of those people who wants to win the game to have won it... i'd much rather cheat my way through to figure out the plot and see how the game ends... *grin*
Congratulations!
Garius Lupus Posted Jul 19, 2001
congrats, Affy!
Invisi-clues are terrible. Just knowing they are there makes you want to use them, but they really diminish the satisfaction you get at the end of the game if you didn't use them. I've used them once or twice on most of the games, but wish I hadn't. Way back when, I played the mainframe zork game without any invisiclues. I never managed to finish it, but I solved lots of the puzzles myself and had many many many enjoyable (albeit somewhat frustrating) hours.
Congratulations!
Afgncaap5 Posted Jul 19, 2001
I still remember my early Zork days before I knew about Invisiclues. I didn't win many games without them, but it's always more fun when you do. I still remember stumbling around Zork I and Zork II, desperately looking for the last few treasures....ah, those were the days....
Congratulations!
Garius Lupus Posted Jul 23, 2001
I still have my maps and notes from the mainframe days. You wouldn't believe the things I tried. What sets Infocom apart was their responses to the weird things you would try. You always got a logical answer, or a funny comment. There's no way I would have ever gotten the bank puzzle, though.
Congratulations!
Afgncaap5 Posted Jul 23, 2001
I'm proud to say that I didn't use Invisiclues for that one. I just kind of stumbled into the right answer, and figured it out when it happened.
