What is this thingites anyway?
I'm quite new here, and I'd like to learn...

It is silly yes. 
The origins of the Thingite campaign are lost in the mists of time - what we do know is it started off as mild-mannered joke, attracted some die-hard devotees, the manifesto was completed and people have flocked to it's anarchic banner ever since.
It has spawned amongst other things, new smileys 
a failed world-record bid (no, seriously) and N3 remains the longest forum on all of h2g2.
The basic idea is to agree that first off all the current names of the days of the week are a bit arbitary and rather in need of updating. We propose to update them with something explictly arbitary and manic instead. We campaign (in the loosest sense) for the proposed replacements: Sodit, Wimpy, Wibble, Thing, Poets, Doobry, Dontbry.
We use the humble titanium Spork as a deadly mêlée weapon and finely balanced throwing sporks can be flung with wanton abandon.
Very occasionally people of limited vision will raise arms against us and decry our folly. They are to be ignored, or if possible, turned. People think we're nuts, they're probably right about that. What they clearly fail to grasp is that being nuts is tremendous fun! 
If you join, you get to pick your own title (the more grandiose and sillier the better), you can even have a GUIDEML blob to put on your personal space proclaiming your allegiance to Thing.
Welcome to h2g2 by the way, it is a very friendly comunity here, I'm very glad you sought out the Thingites, I hope the rest of the site proves as interesting for you.
