So, for example, visit http://www.livejournal.com/users/johncoxon and go to userinfo (near the top), then click the button with a plus sign near to the top (on the left of four other buttons) to add me as a friend.
Visit http://www.livejournal.com/~thingites and go to userinfo, then click "join this community" (near to the add friend button) to join the Thingite community.
