You always annoy me az I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a researcher who hasn't at some point, and vice-versa. Some of the people I've found most annoying at first are now some of the people I like most.
Rillington, you just got a baptism of fire. If you stick around and always add to debates you'll get a lot of respect for it, there arr far too many people here who express an umpopular opinion, get argued with and simply leave, and that's annoying. We're not unwelcoming, per se, we're just stuck in our way and opinionated.

I agree.. you should stay, Rillington. Introduce yourself properly so we can get to know you. Many of us have disagreed and argued from time to time, but like any dysfunctional family, hootooers tend to 'kiss and make up' only to annoy another day.

Reading the backlog there are a few things that strikes me:
# the obvious need of stereotyping.
# this "us and them" issue
# "if you´re not with us, you´re against us"
# does Jack have any dark in his
?
This stereotyping of people is annoying!
All of us are more complex than hair colour, sexual preferences, ethnicity, gender, shoe size etc. There are some postings that reminds me of that far distant xenophobic village my parents come from. Everyone that not has at least three generations of family tree in the village is looked upon with some sort of disgust and labeled as "them", and thus something that should be avoided. "Them" are against "us" and a threat that must be fought and kept away.
OK, I know that sexual preferences are held against people, but it´s the same with gender, ethnicity and many other things. I just don´t think that anything will be better off if a badly treated group of people start to act the same way against the "bad treaters". Of course it totally unacceptable that anyone is bullied because of preferences, and that goes both ways.
...and I certainly DON´T like to be called a "f*gh*g", just as I don´t like when my "non-totally straight" friends are harassed.
Talking about preferences - it´s a person, an individual that is attractive, loveable, worthy - not a specific gender/nationality/haircolour....
....and may I have some of the dark now..?

And HonestIago wins the 'not actually reading the House Rules before going off on one' award for this week for writing this:
>> I realised the BBC is actually heterophobic last night. In the House Rules it clearly states (now) that homophobic abuse will not be tolerated. However, there's nothing about heterophobic abuse, I can carry on calling the hetties breeders and any other bit of heterosexual-specific abuse I can think of with gay abandon. Discrimination! <<
You haven't *actually* read the House Rules, have you, HonestIago? Be honest.
Joking aside, you'll see that the rules now specifically state that abuse based on sexual preference is forbidden - the term 'sexual preference' was chosen specifically because that includes heterosexuality, bisexuality, homosexuality, celibacy and asexuality.
In other words, the BBC isn't heterophobic. It just doesn't like you
[The BBC would like to point out that the last claim was in fact not representative of BBC Policy. Not that we have a policy on HonestIago, but if we did this probably wouldn't be it. We don't know though, because we haven't got one. We'll let you know if we ever do get one. Possibly. We might just keep it to ourselves though. Thank you]
