I think there's a lot of truth in that Cal and it's the same in all parts of life.
That said, I've never experienced what would be defined as happy. I don't think I've even got as far as contented if I'm being honest.

This may be where all your problems stem from

Possibly but I wouldn't say everything about me, or my views, are due to certain troubles within my life. Just about every gay person has proportionately more troubles than heterosexuals do, that's a known fact, and the way we are treated as inferiors etc is quoted as being the main reason for this.

All part and parcel of being a member of a so-called minority group, Rillington. Which of course isn't fair.
What's that old joke about being a fat, handi-capped, lesbian, Jewish, black person? It wasn't a very good joke, but it pointed out how stupid all this 'them and us' mentality is.
Meanwhile, you do have a choice. To accept how certain people treat you or not. All you really have to know that anyone who ever judges you unkindly simply because of your sexual orientation isn't anyone whose opinion matters.
And anyhow, in our very 'individualistic society' being a minority of one is surely meant to be a good thing!

I think that's a very good reply and I absolutely love being gay. It's just a shame that the world at large doens't and as a result, this impinges directly on my life and how I live my life. Therefore, it becomes a 'them and us' situation.

Frankly, Rillington, the world at large also doesn't accept *me*. For various reasons. Got another quote for you:
"Anybody who is anybody is likely to be unacceptable to the nobodies"
But seriously . . . you really should stop worrying so much about what others think about you. Or at least qualify those 'others' and only take to heart the opinions of people you actually respect.
It doesn't serve you at all to worry about what idiots might think of you.

And that's quite a good thing, Cal!
I also think it's a good thing that maybe Rillington is opening up a bit and perhaps seeing things a bit differently than previously.

If you havent got anything interesting to post.....
Personally, I'm not sure how you can generalise that *any* type of person has more problems than any other *type* of person.
I, for example, have suffered a lot of problems. However, only a couple of them are to do with my sexuality. The majority of them are just to do with the area I was bought up in and the way I was bought up, the people I was exposed to, Etc. If I had been bought up somewhere else things would have been different- maybe I would have had more sexuality-related problems, maybe none. Isnt it all down to the person and their environment?

True that I only listen to those whose opinions I trust. However, others who I do not know still treat me with contempt simply becuase of my sexual orintation or I would be able to be myself when not in a gay place surrounded by my friends.

Well quite. And I thought this was the point some people here were recently making.
It's a fair point.

Not true at all as you have found people here who don't think anything of the sort.
Have I treated you with contempt? You don't know me.

On the problems point, I know that all of my friends have some sort of depe seated mental health issue going on and I know a lot of people. I never came across any of these mental health problems when my friends were heterosexual, before they rejected me due to my sexual orientation. It's just too much of a co-insidence not to state this.
Yes it is true that sexual orientation is not the sole reason people of the prevelence of mental health problems amongst the gay community but the fact that so many gays have mental health sisues must have some explaination and the only things I can think of are (a) people not accepting who the are - something I did many eyars ago - and (b) the prejudice we suffer due to heterosexuals treating us as inferior.

Not at all. However, all the heterosexuals I have known in the past have all rejected me simply because of my sexual orientation and examples I have given already are the latest such cases. The only people who have ever treated me as an equal have been other gay people (men and women).
On the point about problems earlier, I think that the fact that gays suffer from mental health issues far proportionately than heterosexuals do is worth noting. All of my friends, of whom there are many, all have mental health issues in some form, ranging from loneliness to full-on depression and self-harming, with some, including myself, being unable to work. It’s too much of a co-incidence. Whilst not being the sole two reasons but I think that the following two reasons have a lot to do with this. One of those is people not being able to accept themselves (something not applicable to me as I have been out and proud for 12 years) and second the fact that heterosexuals treat us as inferiors, with all the hassle that goes with that.
