During the witch-scares of the Dark Ages, that was true. At other times, and in other places
(Egypt or China during some dynasties), cats were revered and even worshipped.
Nowadays, some cats have acting careers on catfood commercials. smiley - erm If that's not
falling from grace, I don't know what is. smiley - tongueout

Didn't you hear the announcement?: "Your death may be monitored for training
purposes. Or porpoises. Whatever"

<>

That's not meaning, it's more like meanness. smiley - winkeye

<>

Can we go after the remaining ones? smiley - winkeye I'm not very charitable toward post-modernism,
deconstruction, zero tolerance, or most of the other nitwit modern schemes. smiley - cross

Paul - you would've loved the conference that the anglosaxon philosophers did a couple of years back. They had one on Jacques Derrida and invited him to attend, which he did.

I would love to have been a mouse at that one. The papers were hilarious.

Talk about chalk and cheese...

Also, did you know about the award they're giving these days for the worst postmodern sentence in a paper? Sort of like the Bulwer-Lytton, only not on purpose...

They gave the first one to Judith Butler. She was *not* amused...though everybody else was.smiley - winkeye

I'll try to find the website when I have time. The sentence is really long and awful.

I used to have to translate that sort of thing from French, German, and other languages for work.

Did you ever read "The celebrated jumping frog of Calaveras County," by Mark Twain? Twain had the original story, the French tranbsdlation of it, and the re-translation back into English to show how absurd the translation process can be.smiley - laugh
