Bassman - Funny how people never ceases to amaze me! Posted Dec 30, 2001
Hi purplejenny,
The Ministry of BLACK is up and running
I have a few simple rules to guide my Disciples
If you could add the Ministry to your page I would be most grateful
As far as poetry goes, I think that is a little frivolous for those of us, on the dark side....

Oh dear, sorry to have bamboozled you. Hey look - I updated the page again... getting there slowly, and I hope that the ministry roster will be done within a week or 2. I'm sorry it takes so long, its just that it takes ages to scan the backlog, select the right colours and find the persons name, user no and bit about the colour. Thats why i put the formatted stuff above, to speed things up.
No probs if you just can't be diddlin with it, thats fine by me.
I'm gonna stop messin with the computer for a bit and try to paint the sunrise. I'm hoping I'll need skybluepink rather than grey.

Ok then...
the code is called GuideML, and its the formatting language used to make h2g2 look pretty.
are what do the formatting of the text inside them
A tag is written in CAPITALS within angle brackets < > , and they do things like change the colour of text, put it into clever tables and other cool stuff.
If I were you I'd leave off thinking about it, have a cup of tea, and choose the colour you want to be minister for from this page.

Tell me the hex ref (thats the 6 digit number / letter combo) eg #CC00FF
OK? Confused still?... have some more

Ok. Should I set up a Ministry page for my particular ministry? Do you need a blurb and HTML hex triplet colour?

Whoami, If you wish to set up a ministry thats great, though not obligitary. And if you haven't already given me some blurb about your colour, I'll be needing some.
The hex ref is needed so that I know the exact shade you mean. As more ppl come to the ministry its getting a bit more detailed ... what particular shade of red / blue / green that it is you wish to be minister of?

I applied to be Minister without Portfolio (on account of being colour-blind) here's a thought - maybe I should pick a Red and a Green that look the same to me - would that work?

Red? - #ff6600
Green? - #FF6633
-----------------------
Red? - #999900
Green? - #999933
-----------------------
Blue? - #6666CC
Purple? - #6600FF
I tried looking at Ottox's colour chart - these colours look sort of the same to me so I've taken a guess at which is which (though of course I could be completely wrong...)

I'm the Minister for Alab*ster Blue-Green.
Here's the hex: (i think) #009999
And the blurb: Now this is a colour that some people need in their lives - the colour of Alab*ster, the dreaded h2g2 skin. It should only be used in certain ways, as prescribed by the Ministry for Alab*ster Blue Green, Fisheries and Food. Oh, sorry, meant the Ministry for Alab*ster Blue-Green, but not the other stuff.

Hey yall!
Purplejenny has been wonderful in giving us hex references (sounds like some curse look-up, doesn't it?)..
Anyone who needs help understanding the Guide bibblebabble can find help withoujt much problem! There's the Help! button up near the top, where you can find your way to the pages offering help with GuideML, or if you want a shorter shortcut, my space has excellent links to guideML help pages . Just click on my name and scroll down near the bottom of the entry (stop if you get to the journals), and look for my little bit on "Guide Links" or whatever I've called it.
Failing that, go ahead and ask me questions... I'll try to answer them
And I think it would be super keen if we could set up larger mini-ministries... Like, a sub-ministry of Red, and Blue, and so on, and each minister of a specific shade or coloour within the colour can be listed there too, and the whole of each colour can make important decisions regarding the future of that color... After all, I'm only the Minister of Brilliant Teal Blue, not the whole lot of Blue... *sigh*
