Wow! Well done you two!
Have decided I'm not doing any more 'diets' (like Atkins etc.), I'm just going to eat normally and healthily. The reasons being, I thought wheat was giving me spots, so Atkins seemed perfect, but I've had loads of bread and pasta over the weekend, with no new spots . So perhaps my body is getting more used to it.
Plus, Fuzzy mentioned on Saturday, that he wondered if I was diabetic, because I (paraphrasing) "just don't function" if I don't have something to eat every two hours. Which is right to a certain extent, except in the mornings, when I can go without eating anything for 3-4 hours after getting into work. Though I do feel light headed if that's the case.
And *if* I am diabetic, I certainly don't think I was before, and I'm wondering if it's pushing my body through different styles of diet to lose weight. Which really isn't necessary if I just did a bit of daily exercise.
(Was touched that he'd been thinking of me when I wasn't with him )
This week I'm not too fussed, not going to lose a stone by Saturday! But not being stupid and eating and stuff. Will have lots of exercise in China, plus lots of rice and fish and odd meats, so will probably come back lighter!

Well done Debs and Fi! That is over half a stone you two have lost between you this week Debs, not bad after your tiny blip last week - you were probably just retaining water or something last week that has gone now.
Queegle, I'm glad you've decided to dump the bonkers diets, they never work in the long run anyway. If you do suffer on the blood sugar rollercoaster then you might be best having healthy low-gi foods regularly - do the little and often thing to try and keep your metabolism on an even keel. I've been reading about the Commando diet on one of the wedding websites - all these girls putting themselves through the worst two weeks. Its nothing ut eggs for a couple of days - just awful! I wonder how many of them will struggle afterwords, when they have messed up their metabolisms good and proper!
I've got my final weigh in tomorrow, I think it unlikely that 3 lb is going to fall off magically by morning so I'm going to miss my stone-and-a-half target that I arbitrarily set myself, but not by far. I had a tricky weekend visiting relatives so I wasn't really in control of my food which won't have helped. Hey ho.
I am considering going back to slimming world after this, I think the weekly meetings help a lot. Of course I am going to have a diet-free night on saturday, stuff my face with chinese food and get thouroughly p*ssed

Thanks Kelli
I had my sister staying with me Friday til yesterday. We went to the gym on Friday, swam on Sunday and gym again yesterday...I really enjoyed having someone there with me, apart from the fact that she whinged about it almost the whole time we were there!
Last night my parents and my nephew came over and we went for an Indian meal...oh boy, was that hard. First of all there's the poppadums and then all those starters and the yummy main courses . I was feeling quite depressed reading the menu - looking at all the dishes that would cancel out two gym visits in one fell swoop.
I was very good though. I had half a poppadum, a chicken tikka starter and a Lamb sheek kebab, plain rice and dry vegetable curry for main (and I only ate half my rice).
I did a naughty thing this morning - I was so paranoid about that meal I got on the scales...105.1kg! I actually lost some!
Next challenge - Chinese restaurant!

Argh... I've looked all over the place and I can't find this article I read yesterday about overcoming diet plateaus - I was sure it was on MSN, but it seems to have disappeared overnight!
Anyhow, it went through all the usual stuff:
Are you sure you're not cheating, not even a little bit, Are you sure you haven't slacked off on the exercise, Increase your exercise to increase your metabolism since losing weight decreases your metabolism, etc.
But the line that surprised me (although it certainly shouldn't have - I've known this for a long time, I just didn't think anyone "official" would acknowlege it) was that one way to increase weight loss is to *increase* your protein intake. Yes, it's more calories, but they confirmed that eating one or two extra servings of protein daily would help start up the weight loss again.
This could explain why so many of you have noticed that on occasions when you thought you'd messed up big time by eating extra (usually in the form of protein), you actually posted a greater weight loss that week.
This seems to be the principle on which the low carb diets work - I'm not advocating Atkins, because I think it's far too restrictive of good carbs like fruit, and adds far too much fat to the normal amounts of fat found in protein rich foods, but that with reasonable exercise levels and a reasonable amount of good healthy carbs (veggies and fruits), you can still increase your protein intake and lose more weight.
In fact, I heard a few months ago about a (supposedly) highly effective diet based on the principle of low GI foods combined with the same number of grams of protein as the number of pounds you currently weigh. At approximately 20 g of protein per 4 oz serving of meat/fish/etc, that would be an incredibly expensive diet (depending on how much you weigh when you start it), although if it actually works, your protein intake could be reduced to keep pace with your weight loss. I don't think I'll try that one either...
If I happen upon that article again, I'll post a link here.

Brilliant!
As dieting got me absolutely nowhere I have decided to go running. Started on Friday, before work, with a colleague. We shall go 3 times a week and I hope to see some effect by the end of September.
Perhaps I should weight myself now, so I have something to compare with.

Good idea to get a starting measurement TC, it is always good to keep track of what you have lost.
Well done Debs that is a fantastic amount of weight! Keep up the good work girl!
After finishing the tv part of the diet I had a bit of a binge this weekend, lots of booze, a chinese on saturday and a bbq on sunday, an icecream both days... I'm too scared to weigh myself afterwards, but am back on the wagon again for this week - hopefully to undo the damage! The filming may be over but I have still got a dress to buy after all!

Thanks Kelli!
I am glad that you had a good blow out this weekend - if anyone deserves it you do. I'm sure an extra 10 mins in the gym will cancel all that icecream out!!
I have just had another look at your progress chart and as far as I can see I am almost on track with how you did (all the way back then!) - I think you were at my current weight at 10 weeks - it's taken me 12. The fact that you are where you are now from the same start as me is giving me inspiration to carry on.
I have just booked a long weekend away to Glasgow in October - first holiday in nearly 3 years and I think you'd be proud of me... I especially looked for a hotel that had a pool and a gym! The Monday morning workout is already scheduled into the itinerary!

104.2Kg - the right direction but a bit slower this week - just 1lb off.
I have hurt my ankle somehow , I don't recall twisting it or anything, and I had to skip all the weight bearing excercises yesterday. It's all strapped up and Wendy (instructor) says I should stay off it as much as poss for a week! What will that do for the weight loss? I am not looking forward to next Saturday's weigh in

Swimming should be acceptable, shouldn't it?

Lady in a tree Posted Sep 13, 2004
Yes TC - went yesterday as it happens. But the gym is where I burn off most of my calories - nearly 600 in total each session according to the machines!
I went today and did all my routine and it all seemed OK(ish) - but it hurts like hell again now
Rest day tomorrow - lots of elevation and ice.
Good news - my blood pressure has dropped significantly - still high though 147/89.
Weight (according to their scales) 102.5kg!! (always weigh less on them though)
See how it feels on Wednesday...whether I swim or gym!

103.4kg (227.5lbs or 16stone 3lbs)...
Quite chuffed seing as my ankle is still painful. Wendy got me on the exercises which were non weight bearing and I have been extra careful with my food - hardly any treats (small glass of sprakling rosé and 6 squares of Green & Blacks)
I think my weight might plateau soon - I am beginning to notice muscles that have been lying dormant for many years are starting to appear!!

You are doing so well Debs Swimming is one of those stealth exercises that doesn't feel like it is doing much but really is.
I have lost 3 1/2 lb this week, but seeing as I have had something like dysentry for the last couple of days I'd take that with a pinch of salt. 12'7 this morning, we'll have to wait and see what that turns into when I rehydrate

Well done to you too Kelli! 2lb ahead of your target I see...but the (direct nick from az) "dire rear" sounds nasty - what do you think has caused that? I suffer with it all the time - a combination of endometriosis and IBS You'd think the weight would be falling off me
I am so glad that I absolutely adore swimming - and now the kids are back at school the pool is empty at lunch time which is bliss!! No sarky comments about tidal waves, whales or the level of the water rising. I wouldn't mind but half of them are overweight themselves

Oh that reminds me to change my nickname
The rear has been very dire indeed (I nicked it from Terry Pratchett). I think it is something like gastric flu. It started with my fainting in the gym last monday, progressed to my whole body being stiff and painful by thursday and this started yesterday. Immodium hasn't touched it
I haven't been swimming for ages, maybe I should try it again - or maybe I'll just stick to my gym routine (when I can stop fainting!).
I'm not ahead by much 33/29 now. I am supposed to be five lb ahead so that I can have some backsliding over christmas... It is well planned!

Sounds like a good plan Kelli - had a word with my dietician yesterday about Christmas - next time I see her we are going to "discuss" it!
More good news this week - 101.9kg (224lb or 16stone)
I found a pair of jeans a few days ago - size 24 and put them on - they immediately fell off!! Yippee! I can take them on and off without undoing the zip and button! I am going to keep them as my "big jeans" for those look how much I've lost confidence booster moments!

Well done Debs! Your progress is fantastic - the next pound will be better though, I always enjoy get into the next set of numbers down - 15 something instead of 16 something
I stayed the same this week, which is good - it means I have turned the loss through illness last week into a real loss this week Am enjoying the slimming world diet again, but not sure how well I will do on it - I'm eating a lot but all within the guidelines. I had three meals out in three days over the weekend but still managed to do it while sticking to the plan so hopefully won't see too much damage on the scales.
Keep up the good work ladies!
