Allright now I want you to stop this skit. It is just getting too silly. And you, yes the one in the suit - I need you here on stage for the next skit.
When someone asks me for a telephonenumber of a friend, and we know that it's in the same town, I don't give him the area-code do I ?? So why should I give anyone the WWW-thingy..?
TM.
BTW, this is the seconde forum I've encountered recently where people deliberately return to the subject-topic. HURRAY ! Is this the new Hype ?

As opposed to going wildly off track within a few posts.
So, marmite then. Why?

KimotoCat Posted Jan 6, 2000
Why not?
Because I trust Woolite!
There it was again, the Woo-sound!
Sorry, buddy, but we are simply incapable of leaving the subject. Obviously.

At the risk of making the long topic of abbreviation even longer by half, how come someone doesn't invent a system that will abbreviate all that tedious http and :// and www. and .com business - say for instance something like:
h/w.h2g2.c
- which if nothing else might save millions of man-hours (or do they call them person-hours now?) every year that would otherwise be lost through RSI.

KimotoCat Posted Jan 9, 2000
I, uhm, must confess that at present I have precioiusly little new to add to this debate. In fact I do not have any idea about what to do or not to do regarding another of those darned abbreviations - the h/w.h2g2.c idea. (I do so HATE abbreviations, they make other people incapable of understanding s***!)
But I just cannot resist a decent (reply) button. That's the awful truth...
Just wait, in a few days, I am sure I'll have something constructive to add to this fascinating string.
Until then - have some tequila.

I think German has it right they call the W what it really is; double-V. I'm sure that doesn't help, I just wanted to point that out.
Personally I like triple-U, even if it's inaccurate, the whole thing is redundant with todays browsers, so.. Awww just gimme some tequila!

I have actually read through the entire thread of this forum, and all that I had to say has already been covered.
For instance, the pronounciation "wuh-wuh-wuh", since when using a W at the beginning of a word, that's the sound you make.
In Sweden, we all just call it "ve-ve-ve" as if it was three V's instead of three W's.
I'd personally go for "wuh-wuh-wuh". But then again, I'm a swede.

KimotoCat Posted Mar 16, 2000
I on't necessarily mind you being Swede, as I happen to be Danish.
We also do the ve-ve-ve thing in Denmark.
But you're right, most subjects are pretty well covered in this.
Oh, and by the way: Hi, neighbour!

Lost in Scotland Posted Mar 16, 2000
I never seem to find any good threads of forums where people haven't thought like me before. I guess I'm just too lost to find my way to the good threads before anyone else.
Yes, Hiya, neighbour. Even though I'm not very neighboury nowadays, since I emigrated.

I vote for 'Wobble'. Nice and easy. Wobble would stand for www. so you could say ; 'why don't you check out wobble h2g2.com'.
