Plans for the H2G2 Movie
Terran Posted Jan 23, 2004
Just found two more pages (one of which is from the BBC and the other is from MJ Simpson's website) stating that Bill Nighy is going to be Slartibartfast and Martin Freeman is Arthur.

The rumour started with the interview with Bill Nighy, so as rumours go, it's pretty close to the source. Actors rarely announce they're going to be in something if they haven't at least been approached.
Given that they are currently designing and building sets and costumes in preparation for shooting in April, casting rumours are going to be a lot more reliable these days.

I personally wouldn't waste any salt at all.
By the way, I'm hoping to talk to the director and producer next week, so if there are any burning questions you have (that you think they might answer) here's a good place for them.

Heres something a bit more concrete :

I haven't seen if Bill Nighy has a site yet, but I'll have a look
All pretty exciting still
I'm glad they're going for home grown talent though... And with due respect to most American actors (Johnny Depp and Gwyneth Paltrow (sp?) aside) struggle to really play British characters.

Johnny Depp as Zaphod, now THAT'd be interesting!

That's one American I really would have no problem with being in the Hitchhiker film. It's right up his street

If you watch Pirates of the Carribean you can see a 'fantasy hitchhiker's movie' cast:
Johnny Depp: Zaphod
Jack Davenport: Arthur
Geoffrey Rush: Slartibartfast
Kiera Knightley: Trillian
Orlando Bloom: Ford
Hey, it could work.
I know for a fact that Johnny Depp was on the shortlist for Zaphod, but I think he's probably either unavailable or too expensive now. He's supposed to be doing 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' next anyway.

He was going to do Don Quixote for Terry Gilliam for next to nothing as he liked the idea so much. That's my kind of actor

I think I would just like to see it well made with good actors, speculation on who and where they are should be kept to the minimum.
