Thanks, Lemon Blossom. I'd heard of her as a *feminist* martyr, not a pagan... and that she *was* Christian... Maybe I have her story all wrong. (I do know she was a woman, and thought she was a mathematician.)

You can call it god, that's the easy answer to the questions that we can't answer(and that we will never be able to answer because we are not intelligent enough...). I call it stupidity, it would be too easy to explain all that we don't know.I say, just live your life as long as you can and forget all that f.....g stuff about GOD...

I've read that she was a pagan and that she was targeted for both being a pagan and being a woman.

I made a point of her being a pagan because this debate seemed to need to be livened up; I thought that might do the trick.

This suggests that she wasn't Christian, though it gives me the impression that she wasn't a traditional Classical Pagan, either.

Yo, Lem. Yup, cute graphics but "perpetual virginity"! I guess you'd have to be a bit against God to reject so much of what He gives for free! No sex, no kids, maybe even no love? I (a guy) managed (as far as I know) to avoid kids; but what's wrong with sex? Seems to me that virginity after a certain age is a bit foolish, odd, eccentric or something like that!

I don't see the no kids part as following logically from no sex. One can adopt them, which avoids the problem of contributing to the overpopulation of the planet.

Sex is wrong because it is a hormonal instinct, a pleasure indulged in for physical, not mental reasons.

I'm not sure that the no love part follows logically from no sex, if it does that may suggest a problem with society.

I don't claim to be other than odd and eccentric, but I also think that my ideas are right for me (and probably some others).

Hard precept to follow, Lem. So we avoid doing stuff that animals do because it ain't mentally motivated. We wouldn't eat, drink, keep warm of even have the will to live. I suggest you take Hume's advice: "Reason is, and ought to be, the slave of the passions."

An afterthought, Lem. There are mental reasons for having sex such as consolidationg a relationship and giving pleasure to others (well - one other!). There are some here who would argue that there are no mental reasons - just brain causes. I'm not one of them, but I suspect that I'm in a minority.
