hi DJ
Do we actually care how fast thought travels, except to know that it often travels much faster than our minds can get a grasp on?
Anyhoodle, 'thinking' is not just a mind thing - our bodies also think a lot! And it tells us many things if we know how to listen to that.
Sometimes I think far too much emphasis has been placed on our brains as the only 'thinking organ' in our bodies.
In my experience, all of this stuff travels instantaneoulsy. Kind of like how we never have to actually THINK about every breath we take or how many beats our heart does a minute. Likewise, our brains assimulate loads of stimuli and then tries to make some sense of it. It's an automatic organic function of another organ in our body. That is the brain's job, I reckon. To try and make sense of things in a cerebral manner. Then again, we also seem to have a 'soul' which is not a physical organ, yet also tells us lots of stuff too.
Brain, soul, heart, liver, kidney, bowels . . . these things are constantly telling us stuff. Do we listen? I mean, to the whole orchestral piece and not just to the solo players.

quote del dia!!!
actually, bit of a special day here, THREE quotes from our very dear friend DNA:
- Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to beieve there are fairies at the bottom of it too?
- If there is anything more important than my ego around, I want it caught and shot now.
- Without a God, life is only a matter of opinion.

HI Azahar;
>Recently in Canada many grown men have started with law-suits against various priests who had sexually abused them at school. And they are winning their cases! And receiving some money from the Holy Catholic Church in recompense. Though of course, you can never take back all that shame and fear that the small person felt and absorbed at the time.<
Hey! Let's get something straight here... that's still an exit, not an entrance I can see where certain behaviors will demand certain responses, but in America in the 60's and 70's anybody could hit anybodys' kid if they acted up. That was a community effort to ensure we all behaved and lived in constant fear of getting in trouble. And it worked!!
>How do you deal with all that? Do you have kids of your own? If so, I can only imagine that the last thing you would ever do would be to pass on this outrageous behaviour.<
If my kids needed a pop on the head, they got it... And it worked!! Matter of fact, they will probably modify my patterns to suit their needs. That's the game. You build on your experience to develop the next generation.
They will do fine. Thank you for your concern!

I trust that LW is Wittgenstein? who I think would appreciate the logical reduction but not the cause of confusion. Do we all do the Hitler-LW same class thing? this is not an urban myth.

"That was a community effort to ensure we all behaved and lived in constant fear of getting in trouble."
They all lived in constant fear?
A sort of religious themed do as you're told or suffer the painful consequences.
Yeah fear'll get people on line. Particularly if they're small and can't fight back.
Sometimes that disciplinary action can go to far, not saying in your life, but in many peoples.
Not sure I can go with the 40's 50's 60's 70's consensus though. I think there's other ways.
Maybe it's just a male/female thing, since on the whole woman have been more exposed to 'violence' from the bigger/stronger partner in the whole evolution thing.
I've never been able to believe that I have any right to hit/pop/smack anyone, let alone a child.
Why would I do to my kids what I wouldn't do to my bank manager?
and he's particularly annoying
Not that I'm a wishy washy liberal with unruly kids, I don't think.
I've managed to get two of them to maturity and one on the way without popping them and they haven't got into trouble so far.
They know where 'the line' is and they cross it at their peril.
They cross it and they get a horrible long boring, unendurable 'talking to'
The problem for most kids today, I believe, is not knowing where that line is drawn.
Lots of times we hear about kids 'attention seeking' some have to resort to 'bad behaviour' to get that attention, if it's not fourth coming through 'good' behaviour.
Wanting 'attention' is hard wired into our brains, so why it's supposed to be a bad thing I really don't know.
For a baby getting attention is equal to getting enough oxygen and food. It's a real matter of survival.
so sometimes it must seem 'worth' being unpleasantly popped to get someone to notice us.
so usually the bad behaviour isn't diminished at all.
when people talk to me about the 'kids of today' and how appalling their behaviour is, I think; well hey, WE'RE the ones responsible for handing them a world that we created for them to all live in.
