Jordan. You forget that things can exist without concepts. If we say that nothing exists but also the concept of nothing exists, we have a contradiction. Therefore your idea doesn't work. Oh, and I wish you would spell existence correctly. Picky of me, I know. smiley - smiley

Creation of time - can someone put into nice ickle words how one could do that?

Oh! Toxx! Maybe you could help me! What does the right side of the brain do that is vitally useful? I've heard that it's possible to remove most of it without making much of a difference to intelligence... smiley - huh And after splitting the corpus callosum, a similar lack of degeneration can be noticed. (Or can't, depending on how you look at it. smiley - winkeye)

Noggin the Nog

Don't look at me, Jordan. I'm as baffled as you are. The words are disconnected from their normal employment, and don't relate to anything. Ludwig will be turning in his grave.

Sure Jordan. I thought you'd never ask! Now either time has lasted for an infinite duration (impossibility of an actual infinite) or it had a beginning. You or I clearly couldn't create time but God is omnipotent. The nearest our understanding seems to get so far is that whatever He wills becomes the case. In other words, this is a personal cause rather like you moving your arm. You can do it even if neither you nor I know the precise details.

Loss of brain mass tends to have conseqences directly proportional to the age of the owner of the brain. In early childhood, the brain has remarkable plasticity of function. One side of the brain can take over the function of the other. In fact, they are reversed anyway in about 10% of us. Usually the left-handed ones.

Noggin the Nog

That sounds horribly like you're saying that the movement of my arm is accompanied by (or preceded by) an act of will. Ouch!

In fact only a perfectly standard cause and effect is needed here. But causes and effects are in time.

Sure they are, Noggin. But creation isn't, and we need something that isn't in time to create time.

We certainly don't experiment on humans by changing them, Anthea. We do make observations when people are born with bits of their brain missing. It helps us to understand how to teach them and stop other babies having the same problem. I hope you don't think that is wrong.

Oh! I can hardly bare to look at that line, its' so bad!

Or that one! smiley - headhurts

Seriously: I think I had an answer to that. However, I don't think I can remember it. I don't ask you to take it on faith that I have, indeed, got any good response, because I'm not sure I can remember having one. However, if I find it, you'll be the first to know. Depending on when you're online, of course. smiley - winkeye

Jordan. I hope I've already put her mind at rest. I love to argue the details. Noggin seems to bail out as soon as I depart too far from Nogginism - which is pretty swiftly! smiley - smiley

He admitted to that tendency very recently, Jordan. I'm the same but I crack on with arguments. I like to try something different, even if I end up making a U turn or getting shot down in flames. It's part of the fun.

Well, I don't think all non-Christians are Satan worshippers! I don't blame you for feeling that way though. A lot of Christians are way too judgemental, and some are way too eager to say "You're gonna burn." I don't think that's very Christ-like though.
