Maybe I'd have better chances then, say-if I asked out some type of goth, who was into 'antiquarian' stuff; At least that way, holding open the door, & stuff, might be seen as a '+' instead, of a '-'?

I was only kidding about the fingernails part.

Hey, y'know,- My beliefs are subject to changes and stuff too; it's alright. 6 or so generations into a family tradition of being Episcopalean Christians, and hey,- on some days I do feel half-animist; yet, on the whole, this may be due to how I am also 1/2 "celt".

My 'evidence' that there is some sort of deity... is that, both men and women are such that each gender is full of character flaws; that is to say,... they each are equally imperfect, (albeit sometimes in slightly different ways)?

Defenestration is too slow a method for silencing someone-depending on how high the window is off the ground you can still hear the nonsense on the way down. There's also the issue of the cleanup when there's no moat.

Hi Math-(flapping a wing slightly). Curious-I've never heard of someone referred to as a windbreaker [anoraks], but I have heard someone say a person, "...has the brains of a fur coat"-pretty funny.

Jungle Stud - don't toss your beliefs based on some posts here, faith is something that has obviously helped billions of people lead fruitful and productive lives. I was brought up in a reformed Jewish house, my dad was raised in an orthodox kosher house and my mother was also raised Jewish. My being exposed to a 90% Christian school allowd me to debate religions with friends-the contradictions between 'my' old testament and the 'King James' version of the 'new testament' opened the door to doubt. When a cousin became a buddhist I was exposed to yet another religion, so later on when in college I read up on religions and their histories. This ticked off the mother of my Italian Roman Catholic girlfriend to NO end as her daughter and I would have discussions. "Don't worery Mom, he always loses." Having a Jewish mother one learns to "lose" arguments at an early age. [TANGENT WARNING!: I was over at this house once while the father was not around-being he was diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenic this was a good thing-to fix a leaking faucet. While I was there Jan-the girlfriend- asked if I could look at the antique dining room table, a family heirloom, because it had a loose leg. I didn't know antiques had wing nuts holding the legs on, but it was simple so I climbed under the table. The nut was rusty so it was slow going and it was squeaking as I turned it. After a minute or two her mother and younger sister gathered around, asking why my legs were sticking out from under the table. Jan told them I was fixing it, and Helen-the younger sister-commented on my being a plumber AND a carpenter so I was really a good catch. Then the mother suggested I be really careful and they all laughed so I just had to ask why. "Do you remember what they did to the >last< Jewish carpenter?" For those that don't know, they were referring to Jesus. We broke up a few years later and she ended up with a last name of Bergendorfer. END TANGENT] Hey, we could all be wrong and in deep doo doo when the end comes: since nobody's made it back you never know.

Ok, I'll correct myself:

smiley - biggrin/smiley - skull: Ye-ayy!!
I finally did manage to find myself a dance partner-for the midterm in social dance; all it took was running into someone from class, while it was outside of class, so that there wasn't anybody exerting pressure/influence to be a rotten g*t. That and, getting rained upon so hard as to have an almost-pneumonia like state... nearly. Quite by surprise she does a 180-from the initial, oh,-no... (sor-ry...) and laughs when I shake my shaggy mane dry (as though I were a wet smiley - dog), it made her laugh, and-lo and behold I get handed a sopping wet little scrip of paper that has an only sleightly blurry phone # on it.
Oh, and my otaku friend is still speaking to me. It is hard to leave people alone, when they get upset if you let it show that you care about them/what you think of them,-but it is worth it. Then I nearly dashed my thick-smiley - skull in on a concrete pylon... since I was running late to Biology class. When the Prof is about to get into the really tricky bit, an evacuate alarm goes off, because one of the lab machines malfunctioned, or something. Whoo! An exciting day, indeed. smiley - ok

Hi Dr.J smiley - biggrin

In the UK an 'anorak' is a term for an insufferable know-it-all. These are often the sort of people who wear anoraks because the weather patterns indicate a 15% chance of precipitation in the mid-town area at lunchtime. They are usually right damn them.

Blessings,

DA ; Simply Vicky: Don't get pithy with me!

My son is 19, in early February. He currently has a 'light of love' a Latvian woman who is a fellow student, who is inevitably going to hurt him. Not because she is a bad person, but because she is an exchange student going back to Norway soon. One some level, he knows this, and so he plays Protest Rock at top volume and sighs about her...

No black fingernails yet, but that could come...

You know what they say, Thorn... Constant change is here to stay... I had a friend (a missionary nurse for the Salvation Army, he was killed in South Africa *in a motor vehicle accident*!) He used to say, quoting someone (possibly C S Lewis) "There is a sword between the sexes" and he's pretty well right!

Yes, I suppose what people such as my parents and friends, as well as you, and your son's friends,- worry, are about the one's who play off of a guy's emotions,- in order to get a free ride. You see, as soon as the funds/goodies, are all used up, they up & leave, usually. Leaving a path of broken/discarded people behind them. What was it that those sorts were called,- I heard someone use the expression "gold diggers" once, to describe people who did that sort of thing.

That seems strabge. Logically one would gather, that no matter how loud the music is, she will not be able to hear-it, if they are not in the same building... then again, stuff like smiley - love can be irrational, i guess?

Oh, he knows that... he plays it just to relieve his feelings. To her, it's just a fun experience studying abroad, realistically, she is never going to stay, even if she does really fall for him, she can't because of $$ and immigration issues...

I'm glad you got a date for the wossname. I hope she is a nicer girl than the one who upset you.

The midterm for my social dance course. She's alright. I'm starting to be wary of her, the one who flaked out on me,- seemed all smiley - ok, to let me go crash and burn... a little. I told her that I'm a "celt". That some of my ancestors were a type of wizard, that they called druids, and that I did not take well to being used; how no-one did. We'll see how that one unfolds,... tomorrow.

Maybe she'll do some reading about druids, and then she'll think twice before wigging out on a guy... smiley - cool!

Actually, today she sorta threw a fit, and the professor told everybody to be quiet. Sh was about to tell me why she was upset too. I was listening... you know,-"what's the matter?" "Oh,- is it now?" *Softly moan/whisper her name* as she continued raising her voice. Now it seems that rather than having it be just that she either does or does not like me, it's kind of both, unfortunately- also with a bit of almost "hates" me, too. That's the second time a girl (who I also happened to be friends with) has thrown a public fit in attempt to get some sort of dfisarray going on,- as an apparent response to my-not being intuitive enough to guess what's "eating her/on-her-mind". *Shrug* Who ever said that I am supposed to also be inside her head, as well? I (at least I as in me) am, not...
*Wonders if I was supposed to give her a hug, or something, to calm down, but that might not have helped, either. smiley - huh
wtf?! smiley - yikes

It "makes her mad" that I said I thought she did not care, if bad things were happening to me. I did. she claims it wasn't that, but that she was too busy,- with her own "finals". So upset she was, that poor her, all confusled and bemused, it's only midterms right now. Sheesh. I don't know what I am supposed to do. When she said "oh yeah, and stop sending me e-mail that's about stuff (that isn't school-work related)" I said, "hey- goodluck on your tests. Aren't you going to wish me luck on the test?" Then she crouched in front of me. I don't know why, could tell she was getting impatient/irritated, and then I realize that I'm looking everywhere except there, so I look her in the eye, and yeah, she was. Wearing an open-top too (but I did not want to be rude,- it's impolite to stare). smiley - headhurts

Now that apparewntly I find out she does like me back,- it is still my fault,- me,- who brought up maybe kind of liking as a bit more than simply just as a friend... first. smiley - footinmouth/}Blammo!{

It was both tragic and funny. I could just see the tiny bit of a smile, leaving fast, and then_ like a blubbering idiot, my eyes start to twitch on the lower lids- because I will not, absolutely will not (as long as I can help it), cry in public. Unless that is to say I have gotten punched in the eye (but that is involuntary). If she was not so angry, I could have sworn she may have winked, just a little bit. smiley - doh
