I'm really mad. Snape was my favorite character. The only one in the entire series with a little backbone. Its a lot harder to go crawling back to your childhood enemies admitting you were wrong than to face a lot of big ugly trolls and dragons.
I havne't read the book, but based on this I'm guessing Snape is the traitor in this story. So now, quick, somebody- who dies?!?!!?

I hope I have not ruined it for you. I hoped that the title would put off people who have not read it yet.

I'm not rushing to read it- the last brick turned me off a drop- too long and prolonged. Also the Brian Jacques like split between good guys and bad guys.
But I really really really reallly want to just know who the prince is, and who dies, so I can get on with my life...

You still probably don't want to read this unless you have read the book or just don't care to.....

I thought this was a pretty good plot line. Harry only has one last book to grow up in, and how could he really come out on his own if Dumbledore was always there? It also relieved some of my irritation to always read about the pokes and jabs given to Harry by Snape. I like Snape as a solidly evil villain.

I have to admit that I wondered if Snape would be the one to die, especially after reading about his unbreakable vow. However, there is still the perverse possibility that Dumbledore saw him self like Obi Wan Kenobi, more powerful after his death, etc... and that Snape was following some kind of hidden plot line and will revert to being an unlikeable good guy at the very end.

Either way, I'm glad Harry has grown out of his mopey depressed stage - it was getting irritating. Hermione & Ron?!? Harry & Ginny??? Interesting new dynamics evolving.

Well, can I butt in too??

I like the second scenario better, seems to be more likely I feel.

Snape ... well anyone but Alan Rickman for him would have been a mistake. I am sure that he and Dumbledore had a "plan" of sorts, like you describe. The likelihood that Harry will have power over Snape is definitely on the cards (ditto), but perhaps they will unite to defeat old Voldy (so making Snape a good bad guy).

Any ideas on who will be the next Hogwarts head?? MaGonigall doesn't seem to have the experience or depth of magical knowledge. Actually, in some ways, Snape could fit that bill if he suddenly transmogrified himself into a good guy. smiley - magic

I'm not sure how Rowling is going to fix Hogwarts. McGonagall really doesn't have the charisma or power Dumbledore did, but since Harry, Hermione, and Ron aren't planning to return to Hogwarts for their last term, I don't know how significantly Hogwarts will play in the next book.

I can see Snape coming back as headmaster if he does in fact return in the next novel to be an anti-hero. I don't see Dumbledore coming back to life per se. Has the series ever explained why some come back as ghosts and others just fade away? It may have been covered in one of the first books, but I don't have time to go back and re-read them to find the answer.

Harry as the instructor in Defense of the Dark Arts?

I hope they go back to Hogwarts next year. The book just won't be quite right without it. smiley - sadface

Teri - there's a bit in the last chapter of OotP where Harry ask Nearly Headless Nick about ghosts. Nick says, "I was afraid of death. I chose to remain behind ... I know nothing of the secrets of death, Harry, for I chose my feeble imitation of life instead." It doesn't sound like the sort of reason Dumbledore would use to stay behind and help Harry.

Who saw Snape kill Dumbledore? It was just Harry and some Death Eaters, wasn't it? What if the ministry don't believe Harry that it was Snape? They've ignored him in the past, and he's already annoyed the new Minster of Magic. Perhaps Snape could be made the new headmaster after all. smiley - monster
