'I could go on...' and I'm sure you could.
I'll come back to your posting tomorrow Lucinda - you raise some points that need to be addressed with a little more attention than I can devote to it now.
KerrAvon: Egyptian Rat F**k - it's actually called Egyptian Rat Screw in the Edited Guide... and there's no indication in the entry that it is indeed rude. In fact the first line says it isn't.

Title changed, presumably (the unedited entry carries the rude name), to above swearing in the title, just as Martin's done.
I don't really see what the game being rude has to do with putting in the 'card games with rude names' entry- none of the other games in the entry are rude either . In fact, since they don't, Egyptian... probably fits *better* as part of that entry than this does.
As an aside- I don't see anything 'rude' about this game either, just unhygenic.

The entry is called Card Games with Rude Names *not* content.
There is no original version of the Egyptian game as it was a Uni project piece.
I really am off home now, I've been here since 7am...

The Edited Entry is here: A609789
Egyptian Rat Fxxk is (one of many) alternative names, as mentioned here and here:
F33592?thread=160659
F74246?thread=179655
info only (I'm not sure that it's particularly relevant)

While it is a uni piece, it is also a flea market scavengee. As detailed here: A845390 , it was based on A507953 which eventually went to the Flea Market. The entry referring to it as Egyptian Rat Fxxk was written later by an unrelated Researcher and not used in the Edited Entry, and can be found here: A680438 .
Any help?

The game has beer in it - it's got to be good!
there's a quote if u want another. use if u want, if not, don't.
just one point:
"A drink for each participant, of hir choice, but typically cheap beer."
in this line from the entry u use 'hir'. u need to change that to 'their' as hir is not standard english and is not allowed in the edited guide with one exception.
i like the updates - it gives the entry a different feel which i think is good.

Cheers spook
'hir' is just my local dialect. Admittedly it's a local dialect centered around my body and extending for approximately one metre in every direction, but still...

A little late into the debate (hey - that almost rhymes!), but I'd like to say it would be a shame if it didn't make it into the Guide. Well-written, amusing, informative.
Go on chaps - stick it in!
(If you'll pardon the expression.)

"The entry is called Card Games with Rude Names *not* content."
Which is exactly my point, you seemed to be arguing earlier that Egyptian... didn't belong in the rude names entry, because the content wasn't rude, ("and there's no indication in the entry that it is indeed rude. In fact the first line says it isn't.") My apologies if I misunderstood you.
Anyway,I was just using the entry as an illustration, similar to Martin's, that this entry doesn't *automatically* belong in the rude names entry. You seem very keen to argue that, that wouldn't be an attempt to keep this off the front page, now would it?
Congrats on the update Martin- I think it adds a lot to the entry. Makes it seem less "about saying w**k a lot"

on the updates. That first Blockquote ought to be in italics, and links to U-pages will be taken out in Subbing. I'm not sure what the usual procedure is for dealing with researcher quotations, but I don't think name-checks are usually used in community written entries.
You might add a disclaimer at the beginning that merely reading the entry may cause nausea.
I don't think this fits very well in the CGwRN entry, because it's so much more thorough than the bits in there. Ditto Egyptian Rat Screw*. There's an entry on "Under-appreciated Singers and Songwriters" (A481051), and when I Subbed "Richard Marx - Musician" (A756227), nobody suggested that he should just be an update to that entry, or that it was redundant to write about him, since he was already included in there, as one section.
I'd suggest adding a at the end of "Card Games with Rude Names", linking to any Card Games with Rude Names that have their own Edited Entries, like this one and Egyptian Rat Screw, and any others that may come along.

The same might be said of "Under-appreciated Singers and Songwriters" - that the section on Richard Marx should be vaped, and replaced with a saying "Other under-appreciated singers and songwriters on h2g2". No point duplicating info, and as is one might mistake the link for a link to his home page or record company or something.
Or maybe now he has his own guide entry, he's no longer under-appreciated?

Oh, I made the fixes re italics and name-checks and such. I've not added a seperate warning because I think "Blennophobes Beware" pretty much covers it, given the title and rest of the intro. It doesn't get at all nauseous until well into the entry, after all.

It is much better now.
If you are going to quote me on the subject of cultural boundaries, please check it out with a cultural anthropologist first. I have done some quick googling on the subject of the Trobriand Islanders - and I can't veryify what I said. But it was a very quick google. I know that there is a culture somewhere which greets people in the way I described. But I dont want to be responsible for slandering the Trobriand Islanders.

Lucinda,
Having just re-read the entry and all the comments here with fresh eyes, I have to say well done. You have incorporated a lot into the entry that makes it worth reconsidering. I am also bringing this entry to the whole h2g2 Team for their consideration - I understand that my editorial opinion is just one and in the spirit of co-operation I want to see what my colleagues feel.
Now that's more Bold Italic attention than you can shake a stick at.
Mina is coming over to look at the issue of Swear Words in Edited Guide Titles - starred and otherwise.
On an aside Lucinda, while I appreciate this is a subject you are passionate about, your response to my posting was, to say the least, sarcastic - this one in particular:
>>> Umm yes. It's called "reacting to feedback in Peer Review".
You make valid points all the time, peppering your comments with sarcasm just makes me switch off.

Excerpt from "The Italics' Big Book of Being Helpful": "Try ignoring all the conventions of human communication in the last thousand years and just answering questions as written, rather than as they are obviously meant. Don't forget to include smileys to indicate that's it's a hilarious joke. A-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha"
Yes, Ashley, I can.

Uh, wha...? Oh right. Nope, not now I've got this book! I was really bored cleaning my flat last night, but then this book popped fully formed into my sub-conscious, and it cheered me right up
Look - it's got a cool picture of Mark's beard on the cover too

Replying to post 144 after a quick shuffle through the backlog.
Lucinda (or Martin???) said :
"Ommigosh - "hearing the name of the game I would instantly know not to play it" - Ever heard of 'Sxxthead'? A perfectly playable game that's free of anything icky. Or 'Strip Jack Naked'? Or 'Egyptian Rat Fxxk'? "
No, I hadn't heard of your 'head' or 'rat' games but as a very young lad I was terrified of ever having to play "Strip Jack Naked". Honest, I dreaded to think what was involved.
As for listening to any 'shaggy dog stories'?
It is really fascinating to see how this entry is evolving but I still can't like it very much because of the mental images of the folk spitting at each other which still tend to obscure any reading enjoyment. (for me, anyway). I would say that this entry is more fun than a burning orphanage but about as 'enjoyable' as the famous toilet scene in Trainspotting.
