Is my Entry on Sc**thorpe going to be selectively moderated as well?

Martin,

As promised I'm back with feedback from the h2g2 Team:

* The entry breaks the hallowed no sptting rule. The rule doesn't say what is spat. The entry condones spitting, thus breaks the house rules, thus you should remove it from PR.

The danger with Conversations is that you can get so involved in them that you can't see the word for the trees...

How does an entry which says, and I quote,

"This game is possibly one of the most unpleasant card games ever invented, and Researchers are advised to stay well away from it at all costs"

be said to 'condone spitting' smiley - huh

That is as close as a no-nonsense answer that I will give.

What I have enjoyed is the debate this entry has stimulated and the issues it has raised.

Breaks the rules how? Like the entry on cuckoo-spit (A812828) that went on the front page recently? Or more like the one on spitting (A266591) that was accepted a couple years back?

F63189?thread=111986#p967007 - "It's a bit of levity in an otherwise heavy set of rules. It doesn't mean anything specific... "

F63189?thread=145056#p1376769 - "Wow! We never thought anyone would actually take that rule seriously"

Rude word in title, update, no spitting... I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Cuckoo-spit is a natural phenomena with no agression. And it's not actually spit - it's a secretion.

The Spitting entry looks at the social and anti-social aspects of the phenomenon without encouraging it.

Thanks for pointing the threads out, nice reading.

Please try and make your points without resorting to anatgonism.

You still haven't answered my question Ashley, on what grounds is the entry said to 'condone spitting'? Especially given the quote I gave previously.

The 'No Spitting' rule is in the House Rules. It's a little quirk that we have, and despite those threads (thanks very much for the handy links), we'd like to uphold it. We wouldn't want the Guide to get pedestrian and boring now, would we?

By going in the EG we give an entry, for want of a better phrase 'A Stamp of Approval' you can add as many disclaimers as you want, by going into the EG, we are saying we approve of this entry. We don't. The Rules don't.

I wasn't debating the rule- I personally think spitting is a grotty habit, but that's not the point. I wanted to know why it was decided that this entry 'condones' and 'encourages' spitting. I read the entry as making it quite clear that the idea of spittting at people is horrible, and Researchers should avoid the game. That doesn't sound like condoning or encouraging to me smiley - huh

I presume, therefore, you give a stamp of approval to molotov cocktails, despite the disclaimers?

Hi KerrAvon,

Under the Moderation rules, we consider a number of things to be 'condoning'. Saying 'try this, it's great' is condoning, and so is giving instructions on how to do something - regardless of disclaimers and/or warnings.

Therefore, as Ashley said, this entry condones spitting.

That's a new defination of 'condone'- the dictionary in front of me says "1. to overlook or forgibe (an offence) 2. (law) To pardon or overlook".

However, my earlier point still stands, if this is the 'h2g2' defination, are you happy 'condoning' an entry on how to make highly dubious explosive devices? Or how to get into locked cars?

I wouldn't be smiley - shrug

Condones? Dunno, but the article certainly glories in the act of spitting on other people despite the token warnings. Not very nice. It reminds of that horrible "tea break in hell joke" but is worse because it seems to have been a real game which real people played (which was up to them I suppose).

If this is chucked out by invoking the 'no spitting' rule, then I will be forced to ejaculate my wrath elsewhere!
