This is my first article. I was about to submit it fo review but then I realised that it doesn't quite fit the "Try to make your entry balanced" guidline. What dop folk think?

It doesn't seem particularly unbalanced to me but you'd probably have to tone it down somewhat for the Edited Guide. You might get less argument on that score if you changed the title to something along the lines of 'Is 'Loch Lomond' all there is to Scottish music?', making it clear the entry is about something other than the usual conception of traditional Scottish music.
Is it the Edited Guide you're aiming for?
What would you class Paul Mounsey as, out of interest? I love his music.

a little research wouldn't hurt, either...

Fair enough but the tune is the one associated with Scotland. It's origins are not entirely known but all it was most likely written in america in the late 19th century.

Good advice - thanks for that. I am aiming for the edited guide if I can. As far as I can see there is nothing on this subject as yet.
Paul Mounsey is great. Definitely a "Folk" section guy. A Scotsman with Brazilian (and other) influences. He's just released a new album!

One link says 1835.
Predating the usefulness of the Negro Spiritual tradition by a couple of decades, at least, since the Fisk Singers didn't begin touring until, if I remember correctly, 1871?
Don't mind me, just being nitpicky.
Carry on.

If you are looking to head for the edited guide, then it will need to be called something like "Why Scottish traditional music isn't" and then explain (as you do) why this misnomer exists. You might have to cut out some of the judgements and make the tone a little bit more neutral. Good point though.

Ok, I'll change the title - thanks for that. It is a little ambiguous. I'll just send it for editing and see if I get it bounced back or not. Thanks for all the advice!

Interesting entry! Just one thing: I realise you didn't intend to write an entry about Scottish Folk music, but I still miss some concrete examples at the end there - bands, singers, instrumentalists, or perhaps tunes or styles? I'm not sure, I just feel there is something missing. You're saying a lot about what _isn't_ proper Scottish music, and I'm left with the question: What _is_, then?

Good point - which I did realise (honest) after I'd written it. It's been turned down for the edited guide as it's a rant (fair enough) so I will write another, slightly nicer article about what the music really is all about!
Thanks for the comment!

On the advice of those in PR, it has been toned down and expanded. Check it out and I'd welcome more comments!

I like it! The entry seems much more balanced now. And it answers my question! This time I was left with a wish to check out those performers you mentioned. And I suppose that was your intention! Nice work!
