Ruppinger is correct! To add to what Bruce said, Nazi propaganda minister Dr. Goebbels(sp?) decided to capitalize on Hitler's temporary vegetarian health diets by creating a myth of a Hitler as a saintly figure in the image of Gandhi (whose anti-colonialism movement was useful for anti-UK propaganda). When the Fuhrer was not on the diet he would hide ground sausage under thick layers of sauce when eating in public. Thankfully the saintly image has been smashed, but the vegetarian myth is incredibly persistant. I see it crop up over and over again. Goebbels was very good at his job.

To dispell some other Hitler rumors, he was not a homosexual and he did not have any Jewish ancestery. The only rumor I know of that actually turns out to be true is that he really did have only one descended testicle. (And to think, that's the one most people think is made up).
