Potential activities for the meetup!
MaW Posted Oct 31, 2000
I was planning on leaving extra time anyway, because I frequently miscalculate journey times or get lost... I got lost in Nottingham the other day merely because I turned one too few corners about six too many times.
So I might be early. Shame I seem to have lost contact with a non-h2g2 acquaintance in London. I shall have to see what I can do about getting back in touch. Might as well do two things while I'm down in London.

Always slow on the uptake as I am, here be my fourpen'orth.
1) Skateing - Could be fun, although I tend to work on the gravity assisted technique, i.e. straight down Might be an idea to find a rink with other stuff (not just a pub, but it would be nice) such as laser tag, bowling, badger baiting, what have you.
2) A pub! You expect me to go to a pub! You know us all too well
3) Dang, can't remember what number three was... Oh no just remembered, it was a quiz on this here site. I have not a hope, but go for it. I shall discuss bribes with young Pastey soon.

Apparantly the Ice Rink may be closed, so other ideas folks?
As for trains, I've just been dredging through Railtracks news and information (dull beyond belief) and of all the train operators the latest scheduled to be back on their normal timetable is GNER, and they reckon they'll be up and running normally by November 7th, so that ain't too bad.

Yeah, but whenever did they stick to their timetable?
The unfortunate people on the West Coast line (namely me), probably won't reach normality until the middle of the next century (week before Xmas).

Non skatey things hmm.
Laser tag - Shoot people you have never met before
Hassling people at Speaker's Corner
Running around a park (probably cold if you stop)
Bungy Jumping from Tower Bridge
The London Eye - where you can all wave as I steadfastly refuse to go up
That BBC Experience thingmy
Standing in the British Museum and Oooing and Ahing
Re-enact the Battle of Bannockburn in Hyde Park
Boating on the River
Go to the Dome (but I'm going this weekend so I doubt I'll go twice)
Re-enact the start of the last James Bond film
Hunt for an on time train
Shout loudly at Karl Marx's grave
Fall asleep on the train and go to Portsmouth by accident
Probably not much use, but there you go.

Hmm. The London Eye might not be too bad... as long as it doesn't go and break down with all of us in it. Making nuisances of ourselves at Hyde Park Corner is not going to attract the kind of attention h2g2 wants, I think. Shooting people (non-violently of course) is always fun, though.

I think re-inacting the start of James Bond! We could probably "aquire" some boats down by the docklands....
London Eye, hmm maybe... but it's only worth it if it's a clear day...
What about Go-karting... hmm.... to expencive....
Ah! Perfect... go on a hunt for tourists that look innocent, and really confuse them by giving them funny directions..... ....

MaW Posted Oct 31, 2000
I'm afraid I couldn't do that. It wouldn't be right somehow.
* burp *
Pardon me.

The London Eye doesn't look particularly exciting... not the kind of thing that we'd want to spend an afternoon doing. The queue is usually really long too.
Um.... surely there's more than one ice rink in London? Anyone live there / feel like finding out?

I'm personally in favour of the falling asleep on a train and ending up in Portsmouth idea. Then we could catch a ferry over to Ryde and have a GREAT time.

-1's it.
Yes, there must be more than one ice rink in London.

Most tenpin bowling places have laser tag, so how about that if not ice skating.

I'll go along with that

Me too. Who's officially organising it around here? I assume Abi, and she's off sick at the moment, so if anybody wants to pass on these suggestions then I suggest telling Peta.
