Potential activities for the meetup!

Post 1

Abi

Hi guys!

I welcome your comments on the following:

1) If ice-skating doesn't come off - what other things would you be interested in doing? For example we could get a decent group discount for the Aquarium and a guided tour to boot! Can anyone think of anything else for me to investigate?

2) We held last year's meet in a pub called the Wellington. Surprisingly they are willing to have us back! We will have a dry and warm area reserved for us and the staff are warm and friendly. Plus it is nice and central. Again any comments?

3) We are thinking of holding a h2g2 quiz complete with appropriate prizes based on Guide Entries and community activity. Again comments please!

Your time is greatly appreciated! smiley - smiley

1) I like the idead of ice skating, but I can't skate. Would be more than willing to sit in the bar being envious thoughsmiley - smiley

2) The Wellington was a lovely pub, and as a bonus, I know where it issmiley - bigeyes

3) Yeah quiz! I just hope that a better show is made than our feeble attempt in the one at he Great British Beer Festival, 13th out of 14 teams. At least we got a prizesmiley - smiley

1) I'm not sure about the Aquarium - guided tours offer too little opportunity for random, senseless and utterly inane socialisation such as that enjoyed in Hyde Park earlier in the year.

2) Sounds good. If they want us back they can't be that bad... will we be supplied with chips again?

3) Great! Great! Great! I must go and research at once!

Oh yeah, the aquarium, er, well... um, believe it or not I have a slight phobia of fish, so you wouldn't get me in there under any circumstance. Sorry.smiley - sadface

I do actually like the idea of going ice skating, as long as I don't have to skatesmiley - smiley

As for other activites, believe it or not, I have no idea what there is to do in London.

Ooh the aquarium is ace - you can go and stroke the friendly skate!!!
Trouble is, its all corridors and darkness - will it be difficult for everyone to natter?

How about the dome? Lots of room there smiley - winkeye

I like the sound of a warm and friendly room with dry and warm staff.

A quiz? I'm rubbish at them.

1) As long as there's somewhere us non-skaters can sit and laugh and point when people fall over and get hurt, that's fine with me. Aquariums don't really have that facility, or do they? smiley - smiley

2) I wasn't there, but it sounds good to me.

3) Yes, in fact let's have 2 quizzes - one for the drunk researchers, and another for anyone who's still sober. smiley - smiley

Pastey and I are setting the quiz and we would just like it to be known we are open for bribes! smiley - smiley

Well I am anyway! smiley - smiley

What's the point in going to the Dome? There's nothing there. Perhaps the Towers should buy it and turn it into an h2g2 theme park-type-thing. We could have an Aroma Cafe, a Forum and Firkin, Mr Sandcastle's Bubbly Donut Stall, the Alabaster House, the Ministry of Wisdom, Linux & Toothbrushes...

* dreams on *

We could make Mina happy and go to the Dungeon...

Or we could make everybody happy and go somewhere that's near a 24-hour donut shop...

Posts are coming so fast in this forum I can't keep up!

The joys of 24/7 internet access!

Anyway, Any quiz would be easily won by the sober Researchers, surely... therefore I win! smiley - smiley

What are the going rates for bribes? How would I go about getting, say, an extra 400% added to my score?

I don't suppose there's anywhere that's like big and indoors and... oh yes, the ice rink. I'm really still very very keen on ice-skating. Anyone ever think of having the meet in a big swimming pool?

How about the London Eye? We could take a pod each and chat to each other on conference call using mobile phones, and I could be sick in my pod when we reach the top.

Hi there Abi smiley - smiley
1) The general consensus seems to be 'Ice skating is fine, just so long as TM can prop up the bar'.
2) Great idea... cool pup, cool snax
3) I win... I just got the first three answers correct anyway smiley - smiley

I'd just like to say that I will be the last person on Earth to have a mobile phone.
Unless they make them with a dial instead of buttons. I hate phones with buttons.... Horrible things, buttons...

I'm not really here

Ecxuse me for being thick, but what sort of quiz are you talking about? Not that I mind whatever it is, as I can't answer questions anyway.

Any pub that serves drink is ok with me.

If ice skating is out I'm not too keen in the idea of the aquarium, there's lots of other things to do it London. Spooky stuff. Or even just heckling the street performers in Covent Garden.

I answered those backwards, sorry.

Sobriety and Quiz don't necessarily win. Often when I've had a few I get the subconcious churning out surprising answers.

MaW did you actually look at the dome when you were there, or have you even been. It actaully is quite good. I like the idea of iceskating though as it means Linz will be clinging to me all afternoon not that she wouldn't be during any other activity anyway smiley - smiley

As for Pubs if they are willing to have us back...

*steps back in amazement*

...well the Wellington sounds not bad by all accounts. smiley - smiley

Although dubious about Ice skating, mainly because I can't... I wouldn't mind sitting somewhere and being sociable.

As for the Wellington, if we can overrun lots of it that would be good smiley - smiley

As for the quiz... the question is, what's your price smiley - winkeye
