Ok I'm awake now.
And I'm reminded of recent quizzes where Madent and/or Marjin were awarded points by Greebo for having a proper and complete answer and Madent and/or Marjin was disallowed for having an improper or incomplete answer even though it was posted first ..or somesuch.
So, I have to concede that Madent has more properly defined the answer - ie: Peruvian string theory - and, if that is the answer Marjin was looking for, I cannot in good conscious object to Madent being declared winner of this round.
In fact, not only will I applaud Madent's victory, I will even admit my answer was just a bad pun. I had actually forgotten the specifics - ie: the knotty details of the braided accountancy - and was just grasping at llamas in the dark.
Oh hello, I see we have a new visitor, dazed and confused. Fear not, for only patience and time will make it clear that we are running a bootleg quiz, the rules of which are not even clear to us and seem to change with every winner - who then asks the next question. It is not a daily quiz (for the benefit of those beyond GMT) and each round can carry on for days before a winner is found or the questioner gives in - whichever comes first.
We are currently trying to determine if Madent's answer (Peruvian string theory) is the 'language' Marjin meant to represent with a series of dashes and circles like --o--oo--o-o-oo--o or somesuch back in Posting #1814. So far we have been told it is not punch cards, smoke signals, binary code or Bubblish.
All rather silly really. But that is after all the point. Yes?

Hold on, we need to wait for Marjin to confirm whose turn it is to set the question. Unless of course you have a better answer to Post 1814.
Inca rope-knots
Marjin, After a long time of procrastination back lurking Posted Apr 12, 2002
Sorry I was away all day, walking with family.
Indeed i noticed an answer close enough to accept, especially as my picture was a bit cryptic.
It was a try to represent the Inca knottet rope, used to pass info all over the empire.
So Madent in post 1838 gave the correct answer, and may think of the next one.

Darn, and I thought I was providing clarification of quite a good answer .... fingers crossed Marjin had something else in mind, or I'll have to think of something quick .....
Mind you, the symbols do remind me of something else too. There's an advert with writing that appears as loops out of a straight line ...

Simpost, okay I'll try and come up with something nasty ...

Okay, how long to the nearest second, is a synodic month?
I'm sure that someone will whip out the answer in double quick time.

I know, and I do not give it exactly enough, someone elses try.
The synodic month (a.k.a. the mean lunar month) is the mean (that is, average) interval in days between exact conjunctions of the Moon and the Sun (as observed from the Earth). The current value of the synodic month (rounded to five decimal places) is 29.53xxx days.

2548800 seconds! It's the time between one new moon and the next. The moon takes about 28 days for one orbit, but because of the Earth's own motion around the sun, it takes another two and a half before the moon appears to be 'new' again.

Maybe I've got the maths wrong... it's been known to happen before...
2001 CE
29.530 588 853 1 * 86,400 = 2,551,442.876 907 84 s
or
2,551,443 +/- 0.5
3000 CE
29.530 590 981 8 * 86,400 = 2,551,443.060 741 12 s
also
2,551,443 +/- 0.5
Caution: New question approaching
Madent Posted Apr 12, 2002
Looks close enough to me. Though you needn't show off with all the decimals, I did say to the nearest second and I make it:
29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes and 3 seconds = 2,551,443 seconds!
Over to you, sixSevens

OK...
Who am I?
I am advancing towards my demise at 0.125 % of my magnitude per day

whoops... not so fast... 0.0125%
sorry
