He's on one ot more of the lists if I remember correctly. And he's at least tangentially connected to the guide entry. But that is not the answer.

Here is another category to add to the list.

"Footballers"

(And no this question has nothing what so ever to do with FIFA rankings and World Cups etc etc etc)

I think it may be to do with commemorative issues of something. Stamps? Unlikely because living people can't appear, cutting down on the number of footballers.

"What the hecks a sinologue - a monologue in sign langwitch?", he said, contributing to the dialogue in his own silly way.

Sinologues are Chinamen apparently.

The final two in the list are "Saints" and "Thirty Comedians".

Now with that lot you can do it by brute force if need be. Trust me I've checked, its definitly do-able smiley - ok

You can call me TC

I looked up Galileo. But I don't think he played football. Nor was he a comedian, let alone 30.

Italy seems to be the connection somehow - and possibly something historical - as that would include Marco Polo which takes us to China. Football probably came from China, too -brought, along with many other cultural goodies which Marco Polo gathred on his journey. (polo mints, polo-necks, water polo............)

I can't remember whether it is an edited entry or not. This item/puzzle is mentioned in the article, but it is not the whole subject for the piece.

Now, here are all the clues again. They are in STRICT order, and now have their appropriate colours associated with them.

Engineers - Brown
Louis - Red
Philosophers - Yellow
Explorers - Green
Planets - Orange
Journalists - Pink
Footballers - Silver
Musicians - Purple
Film Actors - Black
Saints - Navy Blue
Italian Artists - Light Blue
Sinologues - two thick Black parallel lines
Thirty Comedians - two thin Black parallel lines
