Waiting for Luckystar...
Mycroft Posted Jul 25, 2002
Stop thinking, Bagpuss: Luckystar wins. Start thinking, Luckystar: it's your turn...
Incidentally, does anyone know when http://www.godot.com will be ready?

Oh darn, I do this every time! I get so excited at solving a question I forget that that means I then have to come up with one of my own.
Hmmmmmm....let me see.......

All righty, another odd one out:
Big brother, Big log, Dont go, Tryin' times, Kung fu, Karate chop.
Waiting for Luckystar...
Pinniped Posted Jul 26, 2002
Before the tawdry resort to Google, there appear to be song (album?) titles here :
- Big Log is by Robert Plant (Happy Holidays, Granny!)
- Tryin' Times is by Courtney Pine (and also, according to an adjacent workmate, by SAHB)
- Don't Go sounds familiar too...Britney?
...are we getting anywhere here?

Bagpuss Posted Jul 26, 2002
Karate chop, because in each of the others there is at least one letter in common between the two words.

Beatrice Posted Jul 27, 2002
Pinniped is as usual far too clever by 3 quarters and no, its not to do with the letters in the words.

Pinniped Posted Jul 27, 2002
I'm guessing that they're all music by flora (ie people with plant-names) except one.
...Too clever by seven-eighths?

They do sound like pop song titles. Relatively recent pop song titles judging by the amount of thought that appears to have gone into them.
So I'll say Big Brother, just because it's the title from a TV show, an old rock band and, a character in a sci-fi novel (recently made into a movie with Annie Lennox) .
I could use a clue or two my own self.

Pinniped's got the right link, but hasnt elucidated on the odd one out. Come on, whatcha got so far....
Waiting for Luckystar...
Pinniped Posted Jul 29, 2002
What we got so far is back at P2786.
Either Britney's wrong, or the Odd-One-Out, or a very dodgy asparagus reference. Plant and Pine look well-rooted.
Oh well, since the guy's down the pub were even less help than usual, we're going to have to resort to YKW...
See you later

The Ghost of Polidari Posted Jul 29, 2002
'Don't Go' was by The Hothouse Flowers, if that helps...
Waiting for Luckystar...
Madent Posted Jul 29, 2002
Big Brother - Paul Oakenfold (UK Theme tune)
Big Log - Robert Plant
Don't Go - Hothouse Flowers
Tryin' Times - Courtney Pine
Kung Fu (Fighting) - Ash
Karate Chop - ??
Definite tree theme running through here (Oak, Pine and Ash)
Big Log maybe because the song title contains the tree reference, not the artist. Don't Go maybe because the artist refers to flowers not trees.
I don't know, any one got any ideas?

Madent - I think you've got it - Karate Chop is by Chaos Theory - a band whose name has a lot in common with this thread
Waiting for Madent...
Beatrice Posted Jul 29, 2002
Well done Madent. Karate Chop WAS the odd one out.
didnt deliberatley intend the Chaos Theory, but then, that's probably just proof of its existence.....
Off you go!
