June's vote was just squeaked by the short but poignant Shot At Dawn which won the coveted badge. After our Summer break, we turn our attentions to July and August...
So here are my favourites.... I have to confess that July's Entries were largely brilliant, but assorted holidays has meant not quite the breadth of great entries in August that we have had previously. Having seen some gems in PR recently, I fully expect that to change in September. But don't take my word for it: browse the Unofficial Front Page Archive and if you find an Entry you like, please share it.
Mu Beta's Shortlist For July's Entry Of The Month
The Love Story of Abelard and Heloise - Awww...romantic.
How to Bounce a Superball into Space - better than throwing them off motorway bridges, eh?
What Happens When You Drop a Slinky - coils of fun.
Bodyline - Even for the non-cricket fans, this is a fascinating slice of sportsmanship.
How to Complete an Assault Course - Just in case the Krypton Factor makes a comeback.
Mu Beta's Shortlist For August's Entry Of The Month
Malaysian Teapot Worship - The Ayah Pin Cult - I wasn't sure if this was a wind-up at first, but I think it's genuine.
Cucumbers - does what it says on the tin, and a whole lot more.
Prominent 19th Century German Chemists - potted biographies of just the right length.
Pumpernickel - Germans, farting, what's not to like?
Chris Brasher - Remember the name, Radcliffe...
It's a short shortlist this month, but I'm sure people will want to disagree with me. Bring it on!
Can I Vote?
Of course you can! Entry of The Month is all about popular opinion. So whether you're an old-hand in Peer Review or you just signed up yesterday, you are more than welcome to post your vote to the forum below.
IMPORTANT: Please only post once to the voting forum. Votes can then be quickly counted without having to double-check. Please do not try to vote anywhere else. You may vote for your own Entry if you wish. This system is reliant on your goodwill and honesty.
But I don't like any of your suggestions!
That's fine. My shortlist are just personal favourites. If you've seen something you like, please vote for that Entry instead. It would help if you could include an A-Number by way of a link.
All an Entry needs to qualify is to have been put on the Front Page
for the first time in the last month. Please check the date on the Entry you are nominating. It happens that old Entries are sometimes put back on the Front Page for a 'second spell'. The Entry Of The Month must be first published in the month in question.
