Will Billie Piper spoil it?

Post 61

The 'race' comment I made is a bit of a curve ball and nothing to do with Dr Who as such it is just a comparison with saying why not have Dr Who regenerate as a woman(which would be more of a pc gender thing) and the following comment about James Bond being a white man and so how could a black person or a woman play the part - would it still be James Bond.

Possibly a different thread subject about whether we should be colour/gender blind with black actors or female actors playing parts that are 'supposed' to be white or male parts (especially historical roles) and the variations within that.

It never occurred to me that Roses boyfriend was black for any reason other than the actor played him superbly. ('And don't look at my e-mails!'smiley - laugh).

Genuine panic in his voice there, one felt, rather than just a jokey comment. Maybe he's got a bit on the side?

RP is thespian terminology for "received pronounciation" (or something like that). Basically, it means a posh accent - like those newsreaders who used to wear dinner jackets to read the news (even though they were on radio) smiley - winkeye

I thought it was so good I watched the repeat on BBC3. So Billie is a little 2 dimensional but I love the new Doctor. It's great to see a Dr with a good sense of humour and a little touch of the madness about him.

I would give Billie sometime - how would you react if dummies came to life and a mad gurning Mancky dude walked in on you?

It was a performance like Keanu Reeves playing Neo in the first Matrix film - his performance was perfect for a person would didn;t know what the hell was going on - but look at the other two movies where he became all knowing...erm sort of...if you liked them...hell, she's fit who cares!

From what has been said Rose has a greater part to play in later episodes. From a story arc and character point of view she really is Alice down the rabbit hole and is bound to take time to get used to her new environment. Now this is either lucky as it allows her 2D acting to work for the part OR the character will become more animated and rounded as the series goes on. I really hope it is the latter a) for the series and b) she appears to be a lovely person in real life and glad to be where she is.

These days I always try and give a programme one series to mature lets give her a chance (and if you are reading this Billie my telephone number is 0132 *muffled thump*)

Ecclestone's quit!

I was surprised to hear on the news this morning that the new Doctor has quit already! smiley - sadface Considering the good reviews that we've all given it, and no doubt those on other Dr Who sites/forums I must admit I'm surprised. After hearing the schedule they worked, I'm not sure I could work those hours, but it's a shame he's not signed on for the next series for fear of being type cast. Mr Ecclestone, even though we've only seen episode 1 of the new series you did a great job and you will be missed!

If he thinks that schedule was tough he should be thankful the beeb doesn't still do 26 ep seasons.

Hi Kerravon, you're right there - he must be a lightweight! I'm sure other filming schedules are just as tough - wonder what made this one different?

Well, they were bloody long days by all accounts. But then he's not done anything like that before- normally he does 2 or 3 part TV dramas, or films. couple of months shooting tops. Plus with DOctor who you have a very small regular cast, so a Hell of a lot of the work would've been on his shoulders.

9 months of 14 hour days? Otherwise known as what 80% of the working population does. Only for 2 months more.

Has he really quit though? Or is it just a bit of game playing? Sarah Michelle Gellar said she was leaving Buffy at the end of each season from season four....

Nah, he'll leave. In fact, I'd go so far as to say he's LEFT, already.

SMG leaving Buffy was probably a similar thing to Patrick Stewart threatening to leave Trek at the end of season 3 - a pay bargaining tactic. But they were bargaining with billion dollar companies. The BBC cannot afford to haggle like that, and he knows that. No, he's gone, and probably made the decision months ago. In some ways the timing was awful, but on another level I'm impressed they managed to keep it secret until *after* the first episode was broadcast. smiley - erm
