Hallo again!
I've gone ahead with my original idea and you can see the results of the labour here (apologies for the ads):

Don't like the gothic script font, not very legible, especially in circular shape. Can it be anything a bit clearer/
Otherwise, looking pretty good.

The tree and text on the banner both seem rather dark... is that deliberate?
A370487 - The Campsite
tourdelux Posted Oct 17, 2003
Ok. I can easily lighten up the text in the banner. Does anyone have any particular favourite font they might want me to use?

After scrolling through the fonts on this computer it seems Georgia, Pegasus, and Sherwood are the easiest to read aside from the plain fonts like Arial.

Sorry about the delay on this one, a bit busy in RL. I've finally got round to some new (and hopefully improved) ones. You can see them again here:
http://www.angelfire.com/rpg2/rgz/h2g2/community/campsite.html
I've left the old ones there aswell to allow you to compare.

Prefer the second version badges, but don't like the banner. I think it's the curvature of the earth - makes the campsite look like a small planet in outer space... Also, I don't think the text on the banner works...
A370487 - The Campsite
tourdelux Posted Nov 1, 2003
Oh, I see what you mean about the curvature thing. But actually it isn't a curved planet at all, but a cube, which the tents etc. are sitting on, though I can see how you may be able to see a curve.
Could you give more exact reasons as to why the text doesn't work? I don't know how you might like it more.

Well I asked what they might like done to the banner, but I seem to have scared everyone away. I could go and wave a at them to try and catch their attention if you think that would work.

Waving a usually works. Or you could wave an and see if that works better. I have some views, I'll put them on the Yahoo group.

I'm still here but I think Evangeline should make the decision...

Well as you're a member of the campsite you are allowed your aswell so please tell. And you could even go round the campsite and put something on the noticeboard about this thread. As it is for the whole campsite everyone should have their say .
Oh as I'm a member, I like it .

Was that a waving ?
I prefer the second version badge, it's easier to read.
Frankie, how does the text still not work, do you mean the font or phrasing?

Frankie Roberto Posted Dec 14, 2003
The brown-on-black of the text on the banner doesn'tmake it very readable. The text on the badges is a lot nicer, though maybe you could move the base line a pixel or two further away from the inner circle.
I think one general comment on the design is that it looks quite inpersonal - there are no people in the pictures, and whilst it's a realistic picture of some tents and a loo block, it doesn't really convey much emotion. The badges are a lot better as the fire is clearer, and it just looks more cosy.
My (is it me or do the coins have unhappy faces on them?)

To cheer things up a bit I've peopled the campsite on the banner. I can also add a couple of people to the badge if you want, but it's up to you. The new versions are to be found here:

To my eyes, it's harder to read the text with the highlights. I think it's because it gets too 'busy'. Perhaps just lightening the text would be easier to read?
Nice to see some people in the banner - makes it feel much more 'lived in', rather than just a dead campsite in the middle of the night.
I only just noticed the writing on the toilet block - does that need to be lighter/different? I'm having *real* trouble reading it, even right up close to the screen
A370487 - The Campsite
tourdelux Posted Dec 15, 2003
I wasn't sure whether to go for a lighter text or the one with highlights. I've chosen the highlighted version, but if you don't think that works I can change it.
The text on the toilet block just says 'Toilet Block - A655922', but it doesn't really need to be there. Do you think it should be visible, it's really just filler?

Wotchit,
You have done quite a bit of work on these graphics. I can read the text, including the 'Toilet Block - A655922'.
The second badge is my favorite so far. I don't know how to say this, as I can't explain why very well, the people in the second banner help, but it still seems sort of cold and unwelcoming.
