Forty days and forty nights with a selective amnesiac
Everybody has birthdays but nobody does anything about them...
It wasn't much of a childhood to begin with... but when the other kiddies parents invited me to their birthday parties... and I occasionally was allowed by the Commandante of the Household to attend, I was also warned 'Not to expect anything like that around here. We don't have time for that kind of foolishness'.
Of course not, that would have gotten in the way of your daily consumption of half a truckload of Milwaukee's finest...
It wasn't much of a childhood to begin with... but when the other kiddies parents invited me to their birthday parties... and I went,
I saw a life and a style that I almost comprehended but could never aspire to. Truckloads of presents for children that already had so much that their bedrooms were full of stuff. My room, the one I shared with my younger brother, looked like a boot camp barracks by comparison. Actually, when I was in basic training, I was allowed more stuff than I was by my ex-sergeant stepfather. Go figure.
Now he's retired and has to spend all day with my mother...
Maybe there is such a thing as justice?
