Researcher Card...
Phoenix Started conversation Jun 26, 2000
Greetings
I would definitely be interested in such a card, especially if it was made out of credit card stuff with raised lettering as Redbeard seems to suggest. And if it were available trhough the store (perhaps you'd have to submit some verification information to show that you are a registered researcher when ordering) I'd definitely order at least one (I'm a person who likes backups incase womething gets lost). It would probably generate revenue for h2g2 that way.
I think that the card should have the person's real name on it, as well as their h2g2 nickname, so that the person's identity can be verified with their state/country ID. This would make it look more official and probably cause it to be accepted more often.
I look forward to hearing more about this in the future and will check back for updates.

Thanks for the input, Phoenix.
I agree that it could generate some revenue.
As far as the name, I hadn't thought about it that much. Perhaps the option of real name, h2g2 name, or both.

A non-optional item should be the researchers h2g2 researcher number.
By the way Beauregard must be Jean-Lucs cousinand he stares 'Hi'.

I'd buy one. Personally, I'd put your real name and your researcher number on it--the Nickname is trivial. And besides, it looks cooler that way.
I feel sorry for Slacker tho---his card would jsut have a big U1 on it. I like the ring of U145245 for myself, personally.
Good luck getting this one to work. Hey, we got shirts--anything's possible.

Coool... I like!!!
You could make it resemble a credit card even more, putting the individual's researcher number on it, as well as maybe the date he/she began posting, along with a false expiration date, if all that is possible...
I like I like I like... Oooo.... yes, I like...

Thanks. I like the idea of including the researcher number. It does make it look more official.
Now we'll just have to see if the powers decide it's a good idea.

do ya think there's any way to bring it to their attention? I mean, it's kinda risky to ASSUME they're gonna stop by this forum...

Well, I was assured earlier that it had been brought to their attention, but I can't guarantee it. But at that time, the DNA store hadn't really developed far. Now that they've got T-Shirts to sell, they may be more interested in branching out to other merchandise.
There's also a new feedback forum specifically for Feature Suggestions, so it might be appropriate for me to suggest it there.
I think I'll tweak the image to add the id number, and then post the address of this page in the Feature Suggestion forum.

OOOooo... yeah...
::tingles with excitement::
A Researcher Card I would buy, you see... and I'd consider getting a bumper sticker or license plate holder, too... But a t-shirt!?? All apologies, but I've all ready collected enough t-shirts that I might wear a different one each day of the year and never repeat-wear.

What do you mean by saying that the nickname is trivial. If it is just a nickname (as it apears to be in your case) then you might be right, but MINE happens to be my REAL name that I put on all creative stuff, and the other one is just the thing that has to go on my passport, driving license, etc.
So sorry for you that you don't have the imagination to see that this should really be called something like "stage name" or "nom de plume", rather than nickname.

Well, couldn't I have my RL name as standard, and, as an option take-it-or-leave-it, an additional line for Nom de Plume (I like mine)
And I like the idea of a Researcher Card - cool!

The easiest thing would just be to let each person getting the card decide what they want on it for their name.
I'd go with Redbeard, while I'm sure others might choose their 'drivers license' name.
The optional additional line is an interesting idea.

Excellent... And in ten years time, Visa and Mastercard might be offering h2g2's first-ever credit cards!! Wouldn't that be fantastic!!!

Apparently this place is chock full o' angels.

Triv, angels need researcher cards, too... can't always get into the best places, although our home is the very best!!!

Thought I'd let you guys know that I went ahead and mentioned the card at the Feature Suggestions forum and Abi said that she has added it to the internal suggestions system.
So now we just wait and see.
